2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Traditional wooden toys of Croatia on: February 12, 2013 05:00:28 AM

I am not sure if this is the right place, but I would like to share with you photos of these beautiful wooden toys of Croatia - tradition that dates back in the 19th century: crafters were very active even 200 years ago. The method of their production was passed on from generation to generation in some families and has been kept to this day. The peculiarity is that they are handmade by men and mostly painted by women. In the year 2009 UNESCO  declared them as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. If you are near Zagreb, visit Etnographic museum and the exhibition: World of toys where you can see more of them.

3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Valentine sugar card on: February 06, 2013 06:30:59 AM
I love cards, and although in my country it is not custom to give cards on Valentine's day, I made some. This one I particularly like, it is easy to make:

Material is basic: paper, white glue, brown sugar, ribbon, candies, foil (or cardboard) for stencil, scissors

Make stencil - draw hart on foil and cut it. Cut the card from cardboard.

Put the stencil on the card where you want it, glue the shape with white glue, a little bit thicker.

Leave it a minute to dry and sprinkle with brown sugar.

Leave it about ten minutes to dry, carefuly remove the stencil and slowly shake off the excess.
If necessary, to better fix the sugar you can gently spray the sugar shape with glue spray (if you have it) or hair spray - try aside on a test stencil first.

Design  a ribbon shape with your text - I made it using Microsoft Word (Insert tab -> Shapes) and just printed  it on the plain paper.
Print ribbon shape, cut it and glue it on the card. Round the card corners if you like.

Punch two holes and slip the ribbon, tie candies. Card is ready!
4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Easy to make fritters on: December 22, 2012 11:25:00 AM

I would like to share with you this recipe for fritters - they are very easy to make, and can be combined with sweets or salty food.

Ingredients for fritters
- two eggs
- 2 dcl (1 cup) of yogurt
- 200 - 300 g all-purpose flour
- 1 tea-spoon of salt
- 1 baking powder
- oil for deep frying

Put the ingredients (except oil) in the bowl -  be careful just with the flour, dont't use the whole amount.  Beat them until you get a thick paste, add more flour if necessary.
Tip: Add  0,5 dcl of rum or brandy in the paste, it will absorb less fat during frying.
It is good to leave the paste at least 10 minutes before frying, but if you are in the hurry, not necessary.

Heat the oil and using two spoons, put smaller amounts of paste in it. Fry a few at a time, until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side.

Drain on paper towels. Enjoy!

5  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Pumpkin delicious, yet simple soup on: October 12, 2012 06:12:59 AM
Pumpkin soup is one of the best I've tried and incredibly simple to make.

For the ingredient, you need pumpkin flesh (750 g for four persons), potato (250 g), onion (spoon of oil, water and salt).

Heat the oil in the saucepan and add onion, stir a little bit and add potato. Fry it for a couple of minute, add about 1 l of water and add pumpkin . Bring it to boil, add salt, reduce heat and cover the saucepan. Simmer about 20 minutes. When the pumpkin is cooked well, blend everything with the immersion blender or kitchen tool.

Serve with cream or toasted  bread dices.
