271  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Found Object Earrings: Two Pieces of Litter, Destined to Become ART! on: October 22, 2012 04:50:43 AM
awwww...thanks guys! thanks for looking at the feed back! as i said, the universe was just sorta like: "here's some stuff to make earrings", so u can't really ask for anything more than that from the crafting-gods, right? Smiley

have any of u ever had stories of the perfect find, some discarded something that you KNEW was meant to be art, and that u transformed?
272  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Found Object Earrings: Two Pieces of Litter, Destined to Become ART! on: October 21, 2012 06:45:28 PM
I had the most serendipitous walk this morning: along my route, I found two discarded pieces of rusty metal (a washer, and some kind of key) laying on the side of the road. There were no other pieces around, and the two objects went so well together, I KNEW they were meant to become earrings.

All I did was clean the objects, wrap each with copper wire, and attach an ear wire. Voila! Thanks for looking Smiley

Spent hours working on and finishing one for WingsofClay and then realized that I didn't like it so I'm starting a new one. Very typical for me.

no stress--we are always our own worst critics! i just finished one for ThriftyLiving4U...and now i am second guessing myself, thinking that it did not come out "perfect"....how is it that we artists are so free and experimental, but also so harshly critical of ourselves?!

That's a really creative idea, I like the thought of using bits you'd otherwise throw away

thanks!!! to me, "trash" is TREASURE Smiley
276  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Sea Creatures Swap on: October 16, 2012 07:14:57 PM
I am IN if this happens--currently in progress in my first swap ever. if someone can organize the sea creature swap, i will participate. and all my work is vegan, so i can even make "sea creature" jewelry that does not use real creatures--i make my own cruelty free molds.

So is it crazy that I am almost done? Lol! I took a personal day and worked hours on them although it seemed like minutes lol. But they should be ready to ship in a couple days. Want to give them some good drying time.
Holy cow, you're amazing!!

I, too, am almost done with my first partner's art: spent all day working on it for ThriftyLiving4u: you're gonna LOVE it!!! taking photos, too, so that i can make a tutorial once I am done---
another couple days for detail work and drying time, and this will be ready to ship....and then on to the piece i am making for FoxyBlue!

Thank you for sharing your tutorial with us. That was mind blowing!

that's so sweet: thanks!

yes, the take-home essence of the tutorial is this:
--find a base that can be baked (ceramic, glass, metal, etc)
--cover with polymer clay (the large white and tan block of sculpey are cheapest)
--paint with acrylics!
--TIP: work in sections, bake between steps: underbake slightly until u are done; some sections will bake several times

Smiley have fun!

Thank goodness -.- I'm happy it's going well!  Grin

And a special huge THANK YOU to ThriftyLiving4U for opting to swap with 4 partners!!  Kiss

THriftyLiving4u is my partner, and since she heroically took on 4 swap partners, i will make her art extra-extra-extra special! (it was already gonna be: shhh...don't tell!)
