1  Pennsylvania / Pennsylvania: Southeast / Re: Philadelphia Area Thrift Stores on: June 09, 2006 08:41:33 AM
I'm currently attending Eastern University in St. Davids along the Main Line and I've had a rough time finding thrift stores that are really decent.

Someone already mentioned Circle Thrift but here's the website incase anyone needs directions.
http://www.circlethrift.com/  Their hours and other info is available there.

..of course I'm partial since I go to Circle of Hope East which is upstairs above the shop.

Oh and props to the Rocket Cat too!

Yeah I'm not sure either!  My most recent Lucia crown (which just sits on the table as a centerpiece) has small individual battery opperated candles.

In honor of yesterday (Dec.13) being St. Lucia Day (a Swedish Holiday), I thought I'd post my first St. Lucia outfit  that my mom made for me when I was a tike and my last St. Lucia outfit she made me in 3rd grade.  I'm not sure how many she made for me total but here were quite a few.

Oh and sorry for the poor quality.. they're pictures of pictures.. i didn't bring my scanner home or they'd be much better!

*EDIT*
ACTUALLY this is my first St. Lucia outfit from when i was 2 with my swedish grandma!

(Those were definate my first and dorkiest pair of glasses!)

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / tote inspired by smoon26's little dala horse purse on: August 25, 2005 02:19:59 PM
i absolutely fell in love with smoon26's little dala horse purse ( http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=48622.0 ) esp. because it's part of my heritage and brings back alot of fond memories of my grandmother who passed away a couple years ago. She was born here in the U.S. after my greatgradparents migrated from sweden so she passed on alot of neat recipies and tradtions to my family. I think she would have loved smoon's purse so i thought my tote bag would have made her so proud.

so all the credit here goes to smoon26 for posting her  adorable little dala horse purse and my mom for her awsome sewing skills that are so much better than my lame sewing skills lol.. she did most of the sewing but i did help whenever possible.

here it is!

i bought the fabric pre-quilted from the remnant bing at joanne's and the button is from my mom's button jar (which is filled with all sorts of vintage/antique buttons) and the red fabric for the aplique we just had lieing around

close up of the body of the bag:

The button doesn't really work becuase it was too big so there's velcro underneath.

inside of the bag:

there's 2 pockets one for my id and one for my cell phone sewn into the lining

close up of dala horse:

this was my mom's frist time sewing an aplique so i think she did a really great job!

oh my gosh.. that is SO cute!

my great grandparents came from sweden so i'm a 1/4 swedish.  ever since i was little we started celebrating St. Lucia day.. my mom used to make me a traditional costume and we'd bake St. Lucia buns for my grandma so i could take them to her each year.. gosh i miss those days!
