1  Re: My grandmonther is turning 90! in Party Planning by mireneh on: September 18, 2005 05:21:43 AM
Well, so far I've come up with a gift.  My grandmother is in a wheelchair and cannot do a lot, she has hand tremors as well.  There are only so many books out there and she doesn't read all that much.  She does like to sit out on her front porch and enjoy the fresh air.  With that in mind, I found some windchime parts at a craft store and then the B (for her last name).  I have to admit, I did not paint her last name on it - they did that at the store where I bought it.  Anyway, my mom thinks my grandmother will love it.  Let me know what you think!

OK, I finally got around to getting the digital camera from my dad.  Here is my haircolor as it is currently.  The blue is really brighter and deeper, but my computer wouldn't cooperate.  It's more like Kentucky Blue (UK fans will recognize it!)

I think I'm going to switch to black with orange sometime this weekend.  My niece is a cheerleader for my former high school and the colors are orange and black - might be fun to freak out some parents and some of my former classmates!

Sorry about the bad pic - I really just woke up and took the picture.  It looks a lot better when it's styled.

This one:

shows the color a little better.  Anyway, not sure how long it will last, but I guess that's why my friends say I have "mood hair" instead of the mood rings!

There is a product out there, available at Home Depot, that you put on with water and then squeegie out the air bubbles.  It's some kind of cling plastic and I don't think it comes off unless you peel it off.  It might do in a pinch until you can decide what you want to do permanently.  Here's what I found on it:

Light Effects
Texture 12 Textured Colorless Privacy Film 36 in. by 72 in. Each
Model 02-3202

Light Effects colorless privacy film creates the visual effect and sparkle of textured glass without replacing the glass in your windows and doors. Light Effects refracts light giving the film a three dimensional quality. Made of thin, flexible, U.V. protected film, it self-adheres to smooth glass without the use of adhesives. It provides privacy or hides an unwanted view and is easy to install and remove. Patterns match end to end, horizontally or vertically, can be cut to fit unique shapes.

  Cutting edge technology; new patent
Refracts Light for the Visual Effect of Textured Glass
Window Film available in 24 In. x 36 In. and 36 In. x 72 In. Sizes
Easy to Install and Remove, Uses No Adhesives
  Provides Privacy
  Obscures an Unwanted View
  Provides U.V. Protection
Trim down or add panels to fit window

(or search for "window film")

ps. I plan on using it for my bedroom window (if the contractor ever shows up to put in the new ones).  I like the effect and prefer the privacy.

Ok, I finally broke down and took a pic of my (now somewhat faded) haircolor.  I used the Color Rays since I have dark hair - after covering my extensive amount of grey hair.  It was much brighter fuschia at the beginning, but has faded a lot.  I did the underneath layer just for the heck of it.  Bad thing is I went back to South Carolina for a month and the heat and humidity left my collars pink.  I'm thinking of going just above the shoulders soon so that'll help.  Anyway - here's my hair at the moment (forgive the bad pic, I'm not very good at posting and I really prefer to be behind the camera not in front of it)....

ps.....I have some bottles of pinks and a blue (and a package of bleach) to choose from - when my sister is here I'll get her to help me add some different color.

5  My niece's cheer pillow in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by mireneh on: June 19, 2005 09:19:12 PM
My niece is a high school cheeleader and going to cheer camp tomorrow.  She wanted to make something nice for her "secret sister" so I helped her make this pillow.  She did the desinging and cutting, I did the sewing.  I'll teach her how to sew once she gets back.  She's very proud of the end result.

(Sorry the image is so fuzzy - I have yet to master getting a clear picture under the size limit.  The megaphone is orange and white polka dot fabric.)

6  2 bags completed and photographed.. in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by mireneh on: June 19, 2005 09:11:25 PM
Just thought I'd share a couple of bags I finished.  The first one is my current handbag.  Made of denim with a polka dot lining and handles.  They were supposed to be bamboo handles, but I didn't have any so I improvised.  I even managed to put a zippered pocket on the inside.  The flip-flops are an iron-on transfer that originally had 4 flip-flops.  Unfortunately, I bought them on clearance and one of the ends didn't stick - therefore I have 3 on my bag!

The second one is a messenger type bag made of canvas.  It is reversible and has a clutch that snaps onto the front (underneath the flap).  That was a last minute idea I did just for kicks.  I have another I finished, but it's in Myrtle Beach at the moment.

Thanks for looking and comments welcome!

Mary

(sorry for the crappy resolution, but it's the only way I could get it to upload)

you should be able to view as a guest and not have to sign up.  My username is the same ("mireneh") and anyone is supposed to be able to view the albums.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks!

8  Re: Burda 8677 - THE PERFECT EASY SKIRT!!! in Sewing Pattern Reviews by mireneh on: May 14, 2005 08:28:29 PM
Googling, I've found a german (?) site with the pattern on -
  (http://www.dorits-schneiderei.de/shop/product_info.php?products_id=182&osCsid=cff2962d896f1430c9ade8aefee934fe)

Does anyone know anywhere online that sells Burda patters with shipping to the UK, preferably a site that is in English!  Sadly my foreign language skills are lacking!

Check out www.sewingpatterns.com - they have just about every pattern out there (in english even).  Not sure if they ship to the UK, but worth checking into.  Otherwise, let me know and I'll look at Joann's and see how much it is.  I can always pick it up (do I need a reason to go to JoAnns? - never!) and mail it to you.
