1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Welcome to Oklahoma gift basket for a Brazilian exchange student? on: July 22, 2006 07:03:38 PM
My family is hosting a foreign exchange student from Brazil starting next month. When she shows up, we want to give her a "welcome to Oklahoma" gift basket with a few thing she needs and some little gifts and things to make her feel comfortable. We have been chatting with her over email for a few months, but we don't really know her that well.  She is 18.

We know so far that we want to get her a house key made in a cute design, but the rest is all up in the air (some nice soap? snacks? what kind?)

Any Ideas? Thanks!

2  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Empanada Fillings? on: June 05, 2006 08:56:01 PM
So searching through the vegan lunch box past posts, ( http://veganlunchbox.blogspot.com/ )  I got really interested in making me some empanadas. I hear that they freeze really well, so I want to pick one type of dough and a bunch of fillings, spend an afternoon making a frillion of them, and freeze them all for quick easy dinners.

So far, I'm gonna make pumpkin ( http://www.recipezaar.com/135695 ) and Spinach+Cheese ( http://fooddownunder.com/cgi-bin/recipe.cgi?r=242808 )

Does anyone else have any ideas/recipes for fillings?

I'm not veg myself. I would completely appreciate any meaty filling recipes you have laying around too.  Grin
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Did anyone see the castle themed "Debbie Travis's Painted House"? on: February 02, 2006 08:36:00 PM
I was home sick the past few days and I saw the castle episode TWICE in the same day because I kept HGTV on all day. I didnt like anything but the cool ceiling tiles. (I usually dont like anything on that show. She brings faux finishes to a whole new level.  Undecided ) Anyway, My family is moving into a new house and I am going to completely revamp my little (little little) room, and then I thought, "Hey! I should use those cool ceiling tiles", and now I dont have a clue what they were or where they came from.

They are like tin ceiling tiles and in the design is similar, but a vaguely remember Debbie saying that they can be cut with scissors. They were reproductions, I think, of real old ceiling tiles.

Is anyone familiar with these? I can't find them anywhere!
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Reisin table? on: November 13, 2005 05:16:24 PM
How would I go about making one of those reisin filled tables? You know, the tables tha have little trinkets and pictures in them? I mean, supposing that I had a suitable table with a rim around it but no table part in between. Did that make sense? Where would I buy the stuff anyway?

By the way, I dont know if this was addressed yet because the search bar does'nt seem to want to work. (for me anyway)
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Need help with 365 charm ideas on: July 13, 2005 11:25:54 AM
I have decided to get some clay and glaze and such and create a set of pendents/charm thing, one for every day of the year.

A. Too ambitious? To expensive? Thats A LOT of clay.

B. What kind of clay would be best?

(And moist importantly...)

C. I need 365 charm ideas!

7  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Need Help Naming a Church Quilting Group on: June 29, 2005 09:18:49 AM
I posted this in the crafting for good and not evil secion, but I felt that it would not be seen there, so bear with me. Anyway, my aunt is starting a quilting group at my church where a bunch of the members will all get together once a month to work on quilts to give to the babys at baptisms.

We've got JoAnnes giving us 20% off anything we buy for the quilts, it's all set up and everything. Now we need a name. We have a few cheesy soupy ideas like, "Quilting for Christ", but nothing good.

Any ideas?

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Need help with a "So You Want to be a Super Villan" Kit! on: June 02, 2005 01:59:46 PM
I have a friend who I swear could take over the world if she wanted, however, shes not (thankfully) evil. I always joke about it and now shes visiting from out of state and I feel the need to get her a gift! Hence,  a "So You Want to be a Super Villan" kit is in the works.

Got any ideas?
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Help with 23 charms? on: June 01, 2005 01:50:32 PM
Ok. My lucky number is 23, and i could always use a bit of extra luck, so I want to make a lucky necklace/bracelet/anklet.

basically, I want to have one with 23 little charms or something that have the number 23 on each one. my problem is that I have no clue what to make it out of. perhaps I could use several suggestions and make all the charms different. I dont know. any ideas?
