2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Giant Doctor Who scarf...but not the one you're thinking! (VERY picture heavy) on: August 14, 2012 10:43:50 AM
So last fall, instead of writing my college essay and otherwise keeping my grades up to get into college (as a soon to be college freshman, I have no regrets whatsoever), I spent two weeks making myself a huuuuge Doctor Who scarf. It's 7'7", and since I'm only 5'5.5"...well. Let's just say I don't wear it, it wears me!

Anyway, this isn't the usual doctor who scarf - the one that the Doctor wears in classic who - it's pretty much a big fan scarf. Matt Smith is my Doctor, so it's kind of all about his seasons, but there are definitely some Tennant references, haha.

Also, it only took me two weeks because I literally spent every waking moment knitting it...including some moments I should have been sleeping, hahaha. I used US size 3 bamboo needles and a tooon of yarn.

I made up some of these patterns, but I don't have them anymore, unfortunately. I could probably point anyone curious to some of the images I used as references, but many of these patterns don't belong to me. Most of the ones that I snagged were from http://holynarfcrafts.wikispaces.com/ .

All righty, here is my pride and joy (please ignore any bits of my feet/legs haha;:

This was taken from that awesome tardis sock pattern, but used as a flat pattern instead of in the round.

Weeping angel + mini tardis.

Cybus Industries logo + still got legs.

(this says "hello.", but hell is in a brighter red because the Doctor describes River Song as "hell in high heels," but I also love it when she says, "hello sweetie!" so this is a nod to both of those. The heel is for River because I love her haha.)

"You watch us run."
For the writing, I used a pixel font and just blew it up to I could see the individual squares and then used it as a knitting chart.

"(yes.)" + "spoilers"
Remember after Amy's wedding, the Doctor asks River a bunch of questions and she says yes to all of them, and it's such a cute, adorable moment? Me too.

So Craig is another of my favorites, and in the episode he's in during the sixth series, the Doctor is in working in a shop and his name tag says "The Doctor, here to help" with the S&G symbol in front of it. The colors are off from the actual name tag, but that's what this is from. Also, only with a suuuuper lot of blocking did my stranding look like this. I suck at stranding haha.

And since there was a quick "police box" thrown in there in the middle, I finished it with a "public call."

Side two:

Another bow tie! I like this bow tie better. Both are pinned on with safety pins. Absolute favorite part of the scarf haha.

Cybus Industries logo + "still not ginger."

The pandorica! That says "geronimo!" Surprisingly hard to make a cube in one color while knitting haha. The fiery/explosion background was a lot of fun to do, but the back of that section is craaazy hahaha.

"Mad man with a box."

"I wear a fez now."

Thanks for looking!
