31  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / 3 months of Animal mail love (Third mail out before Jan. 16th) on: September 23, 2005 11:49:57 AM
Swap name: 3 Months of Animal mail love
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: Bobolink
Sign-up date range: 9/23/05-9/30/05 or until full
Date to send item by: End of each month. First send out 10/31/05
Second send out: December 7th!
Third send out: January 16th

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): 12 (This is my first swap organizing and it's on-going, so I'm going to limit it to make it manageable)

Non-U.S. participants allowed? yes

All ages allowed? Or 18+? yes

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders"
list and will not allow those members to participate: YES

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap:
The 3 months of mail love swap closed very early, so I had the idea of starting up a similar and parallel swap. This is for those of you who couldn't join the first, those animal lovers out there- I know you exist- and even people in the first swap who want to add to their experience.

Each month you send two small things to your partner, one must be handmade and one can be handmade or store bought. Ideas are magnets, stationary, bookmarks, stuffies, stickers etc... You should also include a note to your partner in each month- this will sort of be like a penpal swap for animal lovers. Items will be on the small side to keep down shipping, but definitely put a bit of work into them and some thought as to what your partner might like. The notes/ letters will help you get to know your partner over the months.
There are three month themes. Each partner will include in their profile which animals are their favorites in each theme.
Month 1: Forest friends: deer, owls, hedgehogs all those cute little 'wild' guys
Month 2: Pets: kitties, doggies, hamsters. (can be pet themed or pet toys)
Month 3: Birdies

...
If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap
Craftster username
Email address
Your real name
Mailing address
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US?

Are there any of the suggested items you'd especially love?:
Are there any of the suggested items you just don't want- ie 'If I get one more magnet my fridge will fall down':
What kind of crafts do you like to make?:
What kind of crafts would you especially like to get?:
Do you have a pet? :
Is there a category of animal that you really really love that I haven't included? (These can be substituted for the pet month):

33  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Leaf Pullover- Interweave knits, Loop-d-loop book on: August 18, 2005 11:26:40 AM
Hey,
I just bought my yarn for the leaf pullover in the loop-d-loop book. It's also in an issue of Interweave knits
http://iwpshopinfo.interweave.com/Knits/2005newsletters/knitssummer2005projects.htm
Here's a link to a great FO in the completed projects section:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=48403.0
(I hope it's Ok to post a link to someone elses FO. If not someone let me know and I'll take it down)

I just started it last night and found I had a few questions already. I know a bunch of people have been admiring it for a while.. anyone want to take the plunge and join me in making it?
It will probably take me a while to really get started cause I'm moving right now and don't have much time for crafting, but a little knitting before bed just might take my mind off the fact that all my furniture has left my apartment Wink

34  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Monk (USA/ TV show) on: July 27, 2005 07:28:51 PM
Ok you'll probably all think I'm crazy, but I'm putting this out there- I'm really interested to see if it gets any interest at all.
I love the TV show Monk on USA and was wondering if anyone else felt the same way and might like to use it as inspiration for crafting (I got the idea for this from the Law and Order swap).
Ideas for crafts other than the obvious actor show pictures etc.. could be stuff Monk could use- ie a sewn wipe holder, cozies etc.. for cleaning supplies; sleuthing themed crafts or stuff based on the themes of the episodes ie Monk goes to the Circus etc...
Sorry if this is way out there, I was just curious to see if there'd be any response.
35  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' singing dolphin on: June 16, 2005 01:26:16 PM
This is just a little thing, but I'm proud of the concept so I thought I'd post it. I dragged my boyfriend to hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, since he hadn't read the book he didn't realize how great it was. He loved it of course and especially the really cute 'Thanks for all the fish' song. So.. I bought him the book for his birthday and knit up this dolphin, but the cool part is that I ordered a recording device from the Internet and recorded part of the song and then sewed it up into the dolphin. When you squeeze him he sings "If I had just one more wish I would like a tasty fish". Then of course I knitted him a little fish attached by velcro- cause you can't deny a cute dolphin's wish Smiley.
The pattern is from 'World of Knitted Toys' and the device was from www.talkingpresents .com. It's a little pricey with shipping and all, but for a boyfriend's birthday it's Ok to go all out Smiley I can't wait to see his face when he realizes it sings.

36  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Combined knitting question on: May 25, 2005 11:37:42 AM
So I recently discovered that I do 'combined knitting'. I learned from my mother when I was 7 and then picked up knitting again two years ago and I think I've been instinctively doing it the way she originally tought me. When I realized what I was doing I read up about it and what I read suggested that it doesn't work on stockinette in the round. I just started the ribbing of Orangina which is K3P3 in the round, which I figured is like stockinette cause you K on K and P on P. I tried switching to the other method by twisting the first round and continuing like that, but my Purl stitches are really really loose and the ribbing looks terrible. I must either just be so unused to the other Purl method that my tension is terrible or my gauge is off cause I tested needle size for combined knitting. Either way I'd love to switch back does anyone know whether I was right to assume combined knitting is bad for ribbing in the round? And also is there some kind of tip for getting the tension on my Purl stitches right using the normal way- maybe I'm doing some common mistake that makes the stitches too loose? Also if anyone has any other tips for interpreting patterns with the combined knitting method that would be great, cause I knit so much better that way.
Thanks so much for the help.
37  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Furry knitted Teddy Bear on: May 10, 2005 04:38:03 PM
Here's a guy I knitted about two years ago. I substituted worsted weight yarn with furry yarn and he came out great. Kind of big, but very cuddly. I've never posted on any forum before, but Mr. Bear wanted to show himself off.
