1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Bare Tree of Life with square bead backing on: August 30, 2012 05:21:42 AM
I saw these large square beads at Michael's and thought they would make a great backing to a TOL pendant.

It too SO long to make! But I think the majority of the time was playing and figuring out exactly how I wanted it. At first, I was just going to bent the wire into a square right around the stone, but I needed to leave a little space on each side between the stone and wire so I could wrap the tree roots/branches...and it was really difficult to make a perfect square and get the stone centered. I decided to bend the wire odd ways around the stone - and I like it much better. And way easier! And I had to play around with the branches for a while since I've never made a tree without stones on the branches before - so that took a while.

I love the way it turned out, but it was a long process. I think it would take much less time if I were to recreate it though, since I know exactly how I want it.

2  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / How do I post pictures in "My Favorite Projects Made by Me"? on: August 15, 2012 07:43:52 AM
I am a Friend of Craftster, so I should be able to post up to 12 photos under "My Favorite Projects Made by Me" on my profile. How do I post photos there? It says: "Click the small camera icon next to any picture to add it here."

Where is the small camera icon? I figured it would be next to the photos I uploaded onto craftster, but there's no icon. also looked on the threads I posted my photos in, and don't see a camera icon there either.

??

TIA!!

3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Tree of Life pendant with tear drop stones on: August 12, 2012 06:41:50 PM
I recently started making these and I love them! I found these tear drop beads at a craft store, they were more expensive than most of the other stones but I thought they would look cool on a tree - kind of shaped like leaves!

I made these today, the tree is the 3rd one I've made and my favorite so far. I'm keeping this one for myself but I think I'll be going back for more of these beads to make others for gifts - I love the colors! The birds nest is the first I've made with gunmetal wire and I love the look of it.

4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Homemade edible arrangement! on: August 08, 2012 06:27:50 AM
It's time consuming and it ends up being a bit of money (fruit is expensive, and you may have to buy the other items if you don't have them on hand), I understand why these things are so expensive to buy now! But, makes a great gift if the receiver likes fruit! My dance instructor was trying to eat healthy and loose weight, so instead of making a cake to bring to class, I made a fruit bouquet. I used various fruits, a ceramic pot for a plant, a foam block, saran wrap, cellophane, a flower cookie cutter, wooden skewers, and chocolate.

I looked at a picture of an edible arrangement to copy. I wrapped the foam block in saran wrap and put it in the pot so the dust wouldn't get on the fruit. I cut the pineapple with the cookie cutter (the middle of the flower is the hard core), and dipped a few strawberries in chocolate. Then i threaded the fruit on the skewers and stuck them into the foam. I wrapped the whole thing in cellophane for gifting, but I took pictures before wrapping

6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / My first day making jewelry! Tree of Life and Birds Nest pendants on: July 30, 2012 07:49:23 PM
I saw Phoenix Fire's Tree of Life pendants and LOVED them. I looked around for other wire projects and found the birds nest pendant which seemed easy and I really liked it.

I had a gift card to Joanne's, went today and got a bunch of beads and some cheap craft wire.

I made the birds nest first. I really like it - I would like to make some with a bird charm on it.

Afterwards, I made the tree pendant. This was much more difficult. I also kept having trouble because the wire kept kinking and breaking off when I tried to wrap it around the outer ring. A few happened right at the start so that wasn't too bad, just a little frustrating. I made the whole tree and once I put on the beads on one of the branches and tried to wrap it, it broke. I though it was unfix-able since there was no wire left to coil....but I was able to salvage it by threading a second piece of wire through.

Does anyone know if it is breaking just because it tends to break because it is thin and I am not use to using wire, or because it is really cheap wire? I don't want to purchase more expensive wire and break that too...I'd rather practice with the cheap stuff if that's the case.

Anyway, I really like how both came out. Going to make my Mom some jewelry for her birthday in a few weeks!

(The pictures came out really dark - sorry!)
