Finally found my decent fabric scissors so can get started tomorrow.

Lost your fabric scissors! Glad you found them. I guard my fabric scissors fiercely....but then sometimes grab them for the wrong thing....yipes. Can't do anything without the proper scissors.

Wow, wonderful skirts and that blouse is so flattering. It must be fun to make things for yourself that fit perfectly. That's what I love about sewing. Now I just need to get motivated to stitch for myself.

Did anybody else notice that the swap info says,
"Date to send bone by: July 31"?
Should make for some interesting dotees.   Wink

Hmm...and it's not even Halloween....Bone Dotees from around the World. He He.

I've been dealing with swap withdrawal. We veggie garden and that takes up a lot of time. But we are in a lull right now, things growing, weeds moderately under control and not too much produce at the moment. That will change of course as soon as I sign up for a swap. Oh, and I won't mention the multitude of picnics and events everyone schedules just 'cause it's summer!

But I have just enough time before the big vacation to sneak in a little dotee....my first official dotee, but then the definition for dolls is pretty loose.

This theme sounds fun...I'm sending in my Q. I've been stalking the galleries all year.

Awww...it's not fair. I'm really good at posting my swap creations in topics of their own. I love showing off.  Grin I don't think I have anything I haven't previously posted. Sigh.

All you procrastinators have fun!

I agree, those uniforms are only for service members, but these bags seem to be a new trend among military families. The Esty shops sell making custom bags from supplied uniforms, not selling pre made bags. My DIL is starting her career as an officer's wife (on top of her two degrees and a career of her own), so we will see how she finds her place. She's an amazing woman, strong and beautiful, and I love her!

The military has changed dramatically. My mother often is amazed at the differences from when my Dad was in the service in WWII and Korea, to my son's service starting in the Marines. And the Coast Guard is different in it's own way as well. And yes, I'm proud of my boy.

So now, what do I do with the pants? Smiley They actually are pretty generic, so they may become my paint pants.

My June project is "Green". My DIL and Grandson want bags made from my son's old Coast Guard uniforms. Someone on Etsy does this custom for quite a good price, but I am a good MIL and will make them out of love. I have them planned, now need to get out the measuring tape, shears, pins and courage. See example.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/116230122/flight-suit-bag-uniform-bag-diaper-bag?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=uniform%20bags&ref=sr_gallery_6

So I did make progress on the ODU bags...had to look that acronym up...I'm not from a military family. Officer Duty Uniform. My grandson's is done, but I may add lining as I had forgotten he picked out super hero fabric for his lining...whoops. See the post here.....http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=439789.msg5321199#msg5321199...hey! It's a featured project...cool.

And here are progress pics on the other bag. It's 15" x 11" x 4". I had measured and planned out all the parts on paper, then walked away for a week. When I started assembling the bag, everything was too big....I had cut for 1/2" seams and then sewed with 1/4" seams...next time I'll make a note to self. Such a newbie mistake. So some ripped seams later, it came together pretty well. Nice details like the button closure on the front pocket, a side cell phone pocket and a divided pocket inside. And magnetic closure for the inside too. First time I used those...pretty smooth. I have to make the straps, I think I will do double side straps and I should finish this weekend. My DIL will be joining my son in Florida by next week and I want to get it sent off to her and my grandson. Fun.

Beautiful! Love your selection of words.

The words were supplied by my partners in the swap. I love the selection of words I was assigned as well. Collaboration is wonderful.
