Really wonderful work and so creative. I agree that your work far exceeded expectations.

Just got my fun hoop from death before dishes:

She did a great job on my mathematics theme. Who thought math had to be boring? Thanks very much.

I received rinchies (and some extra inchies) from Nilmerg/Elaine last night and they are really impressive -- fun and very artistic. She took my animal/farm theme and did something I couldn't have imagined, but I love:

Sorry for the blurry photos. I'm getting a new camera for my birthday (which is tomorrow). I'll try to replace those when next weekend.

Thanks, Jan

Very lovely. Great mix of colors and patterns. May you two use it for many happily married years.
45  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Ongoing Hoopla Round 8 - Signups 9/28 to 10/25, claims 10/1 to 10/31 on: October 23, 2012 04:36:06 AM
I claim deathbeforedishes for chemistry/Chanukah (not as odd a combination as it sounds.)
Send date 13th November 2012

It took a while, but I finally came up with an idea for deathbeforedishes themes that I feel confident I can execute.
Brief info: I am a middle aged, married woman (kids all grown up, one recently married) who primarily lives in a small university town in central New York State (but with a place in New York City, yeah!). My interests are very broad and I don't have strong opinions about color. So, feel free to take any basic idea below and be flexible with it. Here are a few themes to consider:

1 Fruits and vegetables
2 Farms/farming
3 Mid-century modern/retro
4 Art Deco
5 Famous sites
6 Clockworks
7 Humorous Quotes
8 Celebration (non-religious)
9 Opera and/or dance
10 Mathematics
11 artist's choice

Best wishes for everyone.

Love your cross stitch and love Dr. Horrible -- one of the few good things to come out of the Writers' Guild Strike.

I also realized that I need to post what I've sent to pioneer9 (she's received them). I'll do that with some embarrassment. After claiming her for whimsical mosters and collages made with old pictures, I realized that I didn't have a whimsical bone in my body and so, really was bad at designing for that theme. In the end, I threw out a lot, tried to make them more whimsical with captions or names and then sent her eight hoping that she'd find 4 that she liked. The collages were made from a vintage photo that I found at an antique shop of the Newark (NJ) Celebrates Oil Progress Week VIP seating area (there was a big banner in the background). Everyone looked bored or annoyed -- quite funny. Anyhow, here they are.

I'll get a better camera so that my captions can be read in the future.

I received my package from Goddessgarb over the weekend and I just love the inchies that she sent me. Each one is a wonderful work of watercolor art. I also like her choice of "theme and variation" -- a series of pears in different "attitudes". Really lovely. Thanks so much Satina.
49  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Altered paper bag? on: October 21, 2012 04:53:55 AM
I was in the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC (www.madmuseum.org) yesterday and noticed a small group of altered large paper bags with handles on display. Given the interest in altered items among Craftster members, this might be a good addition and it would be very expensive since those bags are often free when you purchase goods, particularly clothing.
The bags I saw all retained their original shape, but the surfaces were altered, but I could imagine that changing the shape is also a possibility.

Just realized that it may have seemed like I flaked because I wasn't posting on this board weekly, but I didn't find this board till just now and the main one was stated as for claims only. Anyhow, I did finish my hoop and send it off, but I'm not sure I'll claim another as I think I need to practice my traditional embroidery skills first. Instead I did very non-traditional work for my first hoop.
