1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / DIY Wedding Dress Questions on: January 16, 2013 10:54:00 AM
Hello fellow craftsters!

This is my first every post on the boards!  I would like to begin with a difficult project and some questions I have.

I am getting married August 25th 2013 and I am making my own dress!  We are having the wedding in his parent's garden, so lots of flowers and green.  To compliment the garden we are doing the colours ivory, green, and a touch of chocolate brown.

I would like the skirt to have some colour in it, but I am not sure how to go about doing that.  I was going to scrap fabric "collage" it but then I thought it would be too heavy and hot since we are getting married in a hot place.  Then I had the idea of some nice fabric paint from Dharma Trading.  But then, I had the brilliant idea of taking different colours of green and then making almost flame shaped strips and sewing them on 1/4" away from the raw edges to get some texture.  My question, what do you think would look nicer?

Next! I'm doing a twist top bodice and a gathered skirt and all of this is going to be strapless.  What fabric would you suggest I use to keep it light but "rigid"?  I was thinking of using cotton because I love working with cotton and I love the feel.

My last question is, should I put a small petticoat under the skirt or just some tulle?  I'm thinking if I don't do any colour on the skirt I would do a green petticoat/tulle that sticks out a little bit at the bottom to show the colour.  What do you think would be more flattering?

Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions!  I'm going shopping for fabric soon and hope to have the dress done before June.  That being said, I have a lot of free time Tongue
