2  My first EVERYTHING cake! in Dessert by Mableheartscharlie on: June 07, 2010 10:44:46 PM

So after some Craftster creeping, countless hours of Ace of Cakes watching (NOT Cake Boss tyvm) and psyching myself up I made this cake. It's my first time with fondant, butter cream, chocolate piping, making a filling and carving a cake... pretty much the only thing I made before was the actual cake as it came from a box (Didn't want to risk the actual cake tasting bad if I failed at decorating it haha).

The Back Story:
It was my friends birthday and she was having a sizable shindig of a birthday and she was paying for all the food herself (!!!) so I volunteered making a cake. I didn't want to fuss with transporting layers (I live out of town and I didn't know if I was taking a bus) and so I thought a stable one layer would be best. Paula (The birthday girl) loves to surf so I thought that would gnarly!

The Construction:
I made the ganache filling earlier in the week using this recipe http://www.recipezaar.com/recipe/Whipped-Chocolate-Ganache-Filling-or-Frosting-106954 cause it said I could finish it later. I also made the marshmellow fondant earlier in the week too..YAY Riverwatson! For the actual cake I used 3 boxes of cake mix and divided them equally and used 2 9x13 pans (well the same one twice haha) used one in the middle and carved out the shapes for the front and back using cardboard templates I sketched out. When it was time to cover the cake I added my colour to my pre-made fondant, I used the Wilton Garden Tone 4 Icing colour in Delphinium Blue.... SO MUCH KNEADING! NEVER AGAIN! I only used that instead of the gel everyone raves about because I had them in my cupboard. Then on to the piping basically found an image of a couple hibiscus flowers and used the "Hawaii Lover" font from dafont.com for the script and free handed the fins (I realize they are a tad too big for the scale of the board but meh it's more chocolate haha) here's a closer shot of the chocolate. It says "Happy Birthday Sweet P" and sadly the chocolate bloomed a bit when I wet down the fondant to stick it on:

And yeah I garnished with a couple shells I had around the house and some flowers from a fake lei (I gave Paula a matching one to wear at the party Smiley ) and the 'sand' is actually ground up sugar and cinnamon! I lucked out and found like a pepper mill that had them both in it at the dollar store! I used 2 mills and it made my hands raw turning the blasted thing I had to enlist a friend to help! haha and yeah the birthday girl LOVED it and it was the talk of the party I'm really pleased with it for a first attempt   Grin

Here she is again and if you have any questions, comments, critiques I would be glad to hear them!

Yay I found my cord and my sweet new CPU has iphoto so I didn't even need to find my software!  Shocked Yay technology!

What I sent:

A "Book"mark (my favourite part is the yarn is like Book's hair in Jaynestown  Grin )

A wobbly headed geisha (pretty much stolen from her wist)

A jewellery box for her pretties - She said she loved the theme song and my favourite part of the credits are the horses at the end and how it blends the sci-fi with the western I think it's a striking image... so I went with that haha:

And the top:

And inside - The betrayal on top and I though the bottom fabric was pretty cunning:

Everything together with the "Big Damn Hero" shirt, 2 Inara shawls, those grow a sponge dinosaur things (one of my favourites from childhood) and some beads to build an Inara-inspired necklace:

Now on to MY shiny package:

Quote coasters:

Some promotional town poster magnets:

And awesome magnet that reminds me of the bar that the crew goes to meet Fanty and Mingo:

AND A JAYNE TOQUE/HAT!!! I AM SO STOKED TO BE A PROUD OWNER OF ONE OF THESE AND ATELLIX DID AN AWESOME JOB! (I have a very small noggin and some hats look silly on me but this fits SOOO well):

And I have taken to wearing the flaps up make it a little more cute not so Jayne-y haha:

AND A JAYNE TOQUE/HAT!!!! I never dreamed I would ever get one!! I LOVE IT!

Hahaha, I think I'm on that same team, it's just harder to make a T-shirt for that one. Smiley Honestly, my friend and I both based our preferences on who we'd rather look at. Puck is a jerk and Finn is just so dumb. I love Finn's character and his lines always have me in stitches (one of my personal favorites: "I have to go or they'll think I'm pooping!"), but if I knew him... I don't think I would be friends with him. However, I'd pay money to stand next to that 6'3" angel all the time.

I forget who asked, but I did make the Finn shirt! As painful as it is for me to say it, I think I like the Puck shirt more, sixth finger aside. This is going to sound strange, but I LOVE his arched eyebrow! It makes the shirt for me, haha.

haha "I have to go or they'll think I'm pooping" is my favourite line from Finn too! I laughed so hard...

My other favourite line is " Oh sure he's dumb like sand" I use it all the time :]

I like the Finn shirt!! You should have his smile on the side of his face haha like so:

Why yes I could of resized it but look at that punim!

6  Re: House M.D. Swap 2.0 Gallery of WONDERMENT! in The Swap Gallery by Mableheartscharlie on: December 29, 2008 12:03:10 PM
I RECEIVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

Today has been a great day this morning the boy I really like confessed his feelings to me and got hit on the way to the bus and new Fall Out Boy album is AMAZING AND I GOT MY PACKAGE when I got into work (I got it shipped to work because my home resides in a Bermuda triangle of sorts and I never get my mail  Roll Eyes) !!!!!

I got:

A stencilled Everybody Lies shirt (with a cute little detail I will show you in the photos) and this was perfect because today was casual dress and I didn't know (it's usually business casual) so I'm wearing it right now Smiley It fits really well!

The cute detail I love is it's in a speech bubble so it's like I'm saying it..

Here I am giving my best House grimace/snarl saying everybody lies:

I one of the items I asked for was a charm bracelet and it is PERFECT:
(I kept this on bigger to show off detail)
The whole thing:

Please note from left to right - The (red) thong of Lisa Cuddy, Wilson's eyebrows (I told Meghan I would make sweet love to Wilson's eyebrows if I had the chance haha), House's H, A vicodin, a cane and bottle of vicodin  Grin

(The eyebrows, thong and bottle are my favourites  Cheesy)

Action shot:

and THE MOST BEAUTIFUL NECKLACE EVER (get your wist buttons ready!) modeled after the opening credits thorax it looks EXACTLY like this:

compared to:

it's SO Detailed... oh yeah and did mention they are HAND PAINTED!!!
A general question they are not sealed and I'm afraid of the paint smudging... what should I do? I was thinking nail polish? Or clear tape? Help?  Smiley

And the jewellery came in this sweet script bottle:

Action shot of everything...

THANK YOU SO MUCH loudxmouse!!!  Grin Grin Grin
