I spent today making a cool diaper bag for an expectant friend.  The idea is that it's got all kinds of practical aspects (vinyl lining, lots of pockets on the inside and outside) but that it looks like a regular messenger-style bag.

That's my only conjecture - that it's a different color and dye lot, so perhaps the yarn is spun a bit differently - perhaps not as tightly, which would account for stretching/shedding.

I think I'd definitely wash by hand before blocking, JennBabe - especially with a hat.  I think I've figured out a way to make my cardi wearable, but it would be more difficult with a hat, for sure.

I'd like to get some feedback from some of you who have used this yarn.  I just finished knitting a lace cardigan with it (CeCe from ChicKnits), threw it in the washer before blocking (following the washing instructions on the tag) and lo and behold, the yarn stretched out in the wash.  It's also shedding quite a bit.  I'm washing it again in warm water, and will dry it in the dryer for a bit if necessary.  I'd like to salvage this cardi, so I'd appreciate hearing from those of you who have successfully or unsuccessfully washed this yarn.  If it stretched, were you able to shrink it again?  Does yours shed?

I used this yarn last year for a tank top and had no problems with washing or shedding, so I'm perplexed...  Help!

Thanks for the nice comments, folks.  Fragolina, I used a different needle size to suit the weight of the Cathay yarn - my gauge was actually slightly smaller than the gauge called for in the pattern because I thought my swatch on bigger needles left too many holes in the fabric.  It worked out okay, since I made the 38" size and my finished tunic came out closer to my actual bust size, 36".
