That is an e-wrap stitch done on a knitting loom.  With needles, it's called a twisted knit stitch.  It's a very common (and easy!)  stitch to do on looms.  It can be done with either single or double knit.  That item looks to have used either very thick/chunky yarn, or by holding more than one strand as one.  If you'd like instructions, let me know ~ it's simple to do

What a fantastic idea to do a different fob a day.  They're all so colorful!  Thanks for inspiring. ~ now I'm wondering what I could feasibly craft every day for a year.  Hmm....

I would loom knit something she can use while running/working out.  How about an i-pod arm cozy, or a water bottle holder?   How about a baseball-themed facecloth?  you could easily do a simple white cotton cloth and add some red thread for baseball stitches?  You could knit a couple, then make some simple face scrub with oatmeal and plain yogurt (or sugar, or whatever - i know there are recipes on craftster), tie them up with some ribbon and tag it 'For Your Dirty 30s'!  It could be cute... just a few suggestions that came to mind as I was typing
