62  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: 8-bit Boyfriend on: August 03, 2015 09:48:37 AM
The only thing is he has tattoos all down his arms, and I couldn't figure out a way to put that in. I thought about using a sharpie and drawing them, or perhaps using a strand of black in the flesh tone to represent the tattoo lines, but ended up doing neither and just left his arms bare - which I think fit the whole "8-bit" theme better...the first thing he said upon seeing the stitch is "where are my tattoos???"
For future pixel people, does anyone have any suggestions how I might do tattoos? or was I right in just excluding them?

My SO got promoted into an office job and I wanted to make a little something for him to put on his new desk. He loves classic video games, and I remembered my mom (30 years ago) doing personalized pixel-y people cross stitch when someone got married, or had an anniversary or an addition to their family.  (My grandma still has one framed of all her grown up children). I called my mom to see if she still had the basic pattern, she laughed - apparently she has cleaned out her craft pile in the last 30 years-but suggested I google it. Found a basic pattern here http://www.marthastewart.com/857131/cross-stitch-family-portrait which seemed almost exactly like what she used to make. I had to wing it on the accessories but I'm super happy with how it turned out!

In addition to video games - he likes beer, music (records) and the Houston Astros (which is the logo on the shirt). He always wears a plaid newsboy style hat which was the hardest to figure out how to replicate in squares. His beard is whiter at the center and his hear whiter nearer the ears, so for those few stitches I added a strand of white.

I received yesterday from Smeddley and let me tell you I am beyond thrilled!
I also told her that the duck pond was my favorite Circus game, so she sent me a whole army of weird mini ducks! (which I had to hide from my coworkers since they inspired so much envy!)

Then she made me some awesome pins of my Pintrest circus pins (and an adorable bear card!)

Then prepare to be astounded by my tattooed lady doll! could she be more amazing? I love the use of the Toile to mimic the tattoos!

And I got this amazing mini top hat which will be perfect for starring as the ringleader in my own circus! (had to run and try it on at work the second I got it, so please excuse the less then steller photography!)
