1  Gato le gateau in Needlework: Completed Projects by littlesquares on: August 16, 2012 03:02:37 PM
Hi again everyone!

I wanted to share my second embroidery with you all. I am very excited about all of the possibilities with embroidery, since I have been doing basically only cross stitch my entire life. I still need to get a good pattern fabric pen, so I just freehanded this portrait of my cat Gato. Yes, his name really is Gato (lonnggg story) but when he's feeling fancy (or because he's gotten quite tubby over the years...) then he goes by Gateau.

My satin stitch isn't so great but I can't wait to keep working on it!

2  Vasily Kandinsky's "Joyous Ascent" 1923 (PIC HEAVY!) in Needlework: Completed Projects by littlesquares on: August 03, 2012 06:31:39 PM
Hi everyone! I am new here, and this is my first post!

This is one of my more recent pieces, I started it April 16, 2012 and finished it on July 20, 2012. I had been wanting to do a reproduction of this piece since 2006ish but it took a few years to perfect the stitches I ultimately used here. I wanted to form smooth curves and lines with cross stitch without using a backstitch. I used some french knots to create the dotted look in two spots, and used a small amount of back stitch in two other spots but the vast majority of all the stitches are cross stitches and variations on the cross stitch. I am so happy with the way it turned out! it is about 9"x12"

here's a really bad side by side comparison of the original and mine

Thank you for looking!!
