2  Hot Lava Cardigan in Knitting: Completed Projects by storybook_farm on: October 12, 2005 07:50:48 AM
I don't know if this is allowed or not, but I bought 6 skeins of merino from handpaintedyarns.com to make the lava--and the yarn is lovely but too light for me--I wear dark colors mostly.

3  recycling sweaters=felted yarn--pic in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by storybook_farm on: September 29, 2005 07:23:07 AM
I bought a beautiful Irish sweater at the thrift yesterday for the wool--it's 90% merino, 10% polyamide, and had been slightly felted--the stitches were still distinct, but when I was unraveling I had to tug to separate the yarn.

The yarn has a really interesting texture--as you can see from the pic--it struck me that this would be fun to experiment with--felting deliberately to achieve different effects.

4  pics of a pretty little shrug in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by storybook_farm on: January 09, 2005 01:59:45 PM
hi all--I'm a newly obsessed knitter who is enjoying all the info here.

just wanted to show you this gorgeous little shrug/poncho that a friend got for christmas--it's from a local gallery that sells some fiber art.

she let me borrow it to take pics.
my questions for you are--

do you know a pattern like this?
and, any suggestions about reproducing the yarn?
another friend who's a spinner and weaver and fiber artist came over to help analyze it--it looks like some mohair, some hand painted rayon ribbon, some really thin chenille spun with mylar and some other texturey yarns.

we are going to work on making something like this and are open to input!
oh, and this is a very tiny poncho--just really covers the shoulders and tops of arms--my friend wore it over a skin tight knit top and jeans--it looked fab.
