11  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: cheap purse handles? on: June 11, 2005 01:54:43 PM
Okey Dokey - this is not instant gratification, but....

Keep your eye out for Hancock's and Joann's 50% off sales.  Hancock's just did theirs Memorial day weekend and I was there first thing and pretty much cleaned them out!!!!

We don't have a Joann's within 4 hours of me, but they do the same sale online.  After scooping up all the purse handles (and any other things you "need") shipping really doesn't effect the price that much.

But, for instant gratification, the best online price I have seen is the link that the PP above listed.

Also, thrift stores  and garage sales - take them outta bags that are there priced for next to nothing.  Occasionally, the "one dollar" type stores, Dollar Generals, Big Lots, etc... will carry stuff like this; it is very hit or miss.

Please do let us know if you find a place that we don't mention here for these and other sewing goodies that we "MUST" have! Wink

Shocked Shocked OHHHHH this is MAHVELOUS!!!!! Shocked Shocked

I keep coming back to drool!  You did such a wonderful and professional job and with the $$ you spent (or didn't spend)!

Okay, I have been trying not to do this, but "a basic square bottom bag" is not basic to me Undecided.  So, I'm gonna do it - Will you do a tute on the next fabulous one of these that you make? Grin  I, and I am sure many others, would be MOST GRATEFUL to you!

Thanks for sharing this treasure with us!
Melanie

Looks awesome.  Love the lace on the inside, great touch!  A little misshapen piece of lace on the pink just to tease or give a hint would be cool too!

Thanks for sharing!

FABULOUS fabric!  I mean I am really Gah Gah over it!

I had no idea how much you could get out of one dress like that!  I WISH my thrift stores had such pretties!!!!

Thanks so very much for the tute! Kiss  I am going to try this and another bag and am so excited!

LOVE this!  I so envy and admire you being able to work out this pattern yourself!!!

This looks soooooo professional!  I too eagerly await the tute!  I have been wanting to take a stab at this

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=37305.0

I think your bag would work perfectly for it!  Now if I can just get the comfort strap part worked out, maybe even bring the wider strap part up more on the shoulder.  I want to use it for a diaper bag and when youare  carrying around babe and "stuff" comfort is ultra important!

Thanks so much for posting this!  Again, you did a WONDERFUL job!

Okay - I don't want to beat this to death, but I love this and am sooooo severely make my own pattern, fly by the seat of my pants handicapped.

Any suggestions on what tute to use for the bag itself and just add pockets and interfacing?  Any suggestions or anyone making something with this type of comfort strap.

Anyone else tried or trying this?

Thanks for any direction!

Oh this is just lovely!  Did you end up doing a tute?

Love the side pockets!  Looks nothing like a diaper bag!

I'm still hanging around to find out if you used a pattern, if so, which one. Or if you came up with this on your own. I really would like to take a shot at this! Grin
Sorry, WhimsyTyme, I did not use a pattern.  The shape of this bag was based on a messenger bag that I own.  I had to change most of it to adapt for baby related things and changed how it opens as well.  I think you should try it, just give yourself more time than I gave myself!

I guess the big thing for me is the strap - can you give any direction on the strap?

Anyone else gonna try this that is good at doing tutes or patterns?  Making up tutes and patterns are really a weakness of mine.
