1  Re: kitty + roving = $%$^#$ in Spinning: Discussion and Questions by astryd on: June 03, 2008 11:59:43 PM
Our new puppy really loves fiber. First it was the little clouds of pygora floating in the backyard (even though I cleaned that last summer, some of it is still around!). Last week I did some dyeing, and she decided to grab 8 oz balls of roving in her little puppy jaws and take off. It took two of us to get it back and involved me climbing under the dining room table behind her to get it back.

Today, she has been going upstairs and bringing me balls of yarn/fiber. I was doing a bit of cleaning today and must have left the door open to the bedroom. First she brought me a ball of red Patons Classic Merino Wool and was scolded (upstairs is supposed to be off limits!) and later, a 10 oz ball purple roving for my latest spinning project.

My mother thinks she wants red and purple leg warmers. She is definitely trouble!

2  Re: Fiber Friday 05-30-08 - Returned Mojo Edition :) in Spinning: Completed Projects by astryd on: May 30, 2008 11:14:25 PM
Woohoo, I made it. The first two were spun this week, the others in the past month or so. Taking pictures while the semester was winding down was beyond me. Truth be told, so is setting the twist, since I haven't done it to any of these!

Tweedy - Batts from my Fiber of the Month - May partner, tristitia. Various wools and lots of black angelina, around 3 oz, bulky thick and thin single.

Antique Shadowbox - handdyed by me, superwash merino, about 4 oz, navajo plied. Planning to make socks for myself!

The other two yarns are here  and  here.

3  Re: Fiber of the Month Swap Gallery! (May) in The Swap Gallery by astryd on: May 30, 2008 10:52:33 PM
I received a wonderful package last week from tristitia, but have been slacking on taking pictures. This picture doesn't really do her batts justice. One set is already spun up! I had to spin them the next day, they were calling my name. Wink In addition to the batts, she mailed me some Hello Yarn roving in "Toxic". Beautiful stuff.

Thank you!

4  Re: Fiber of the Month Swap (April) in The Swap Gallery by astryd on: May 01, 2008 03:15:56 PM
Woohoo! Look what the postman brought me today!

Lapoli, please forgive me for the terrible photo - it does not do your awesome package justice! (But I'm taking a quick break from finishing a final project that is due in 2 hours... procrastinate? Me? No way.)

And the details...

3 handpainted rovings - two mill-end braids(red/blue, grey/lime/red), 1 corriedale braid (yellow/green)
Undyed, natural shetland roving - So squishy! I love it.
Bag of alpaca/wool fiber - The alpaca feels amazing and it is a lovely cocoa color, can't wait to make some batts with it...

Thank you so much Cheryl!  Cheesy Back to finishing this project so I can start spinning...

9  Felted Clogs in Knitting: Completed Projects by astryd on: November 11, 2007 12:02:46 AM
Before:

After:

Pattern: Felted Clogs from Fibertrends, Mens size 11
Yarn: Patons Classic Wool Merino, 2 skeins Paprika and Black
Needles: US 13 Boye circular needle
Started: October 2007
Finished: November 2007

This pattern was great. Pretty easy to knit, as long as you remember to count! It was my first time using short rows and had no issues. I've been ambitious and plan to knit at least four pairs of these babies for Christmas gifts. Took me about 4.5 hours of knitting/seaming time, less if I wasn't trying to knit AND surf the web. Wink

Blogged here.

10  Finished Knits in Knitting: Completed Projects by astryd on: October 23, 2007 02:53:27 PM
A few are Christmas gifts, others I've just neglected to post.  Cheesy

Pattern: Skull Illusion Scarf from Ysolda
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft, 1/2 skein each of Black/White
Needles: US 8 Clover bamboo straights
Started: December 2006
Finished: September 2007

Very easy pattern, quick knit when I wasn't misplacing the project. Christmas present for my cousin. Blogged here.

Pattern: Counterpane Carpet Bag from Handknit Holidays
Yarn: Noro #95, 4 skeins
Needles: US 10 Clover bamboo straights
Started: January 2007
Finished: Knitting finished in May 2007 - finally got handles in August 2007

I love this pattern! For some reason mine doesn't 'poof' up as much as others that I've seen - and that was before blocking! Either way, still happy with the result. Just need to find something else to line it with. Blogged here.

Pattern: Silvers Sock Class
Yarn: Some type of Regia - hate the colorway.
Needles: US 3 (3.25mm) Clover bamboo DPNs
Started: August 2007
Finished: October 2007

Easy, well-written beginner sock pattern. My second time using it. Christmas present for 11 year old brother. Blogged here.

The bag/scarf pictures both link to a full view of the project. Thanks for looking!
