1  What ya gonna do when you just NEED to have a zipper dress? in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by BethyG on: October 01, 2008 05:11:53 PM
your gonna make one. that's what your gonna do.
Dont kill me guys. I didn't take any before pictures. I'm sure you can all use you imaginations and picture a tall thin girl in a 2XL long sleeve shirt that would never of fit her. Ever.
Basically all i did was trace a well fitting dress. Cut it out. Hem up the armholes. Sew together the sides. Put in a zipper.
I really like my white zipper, but it was more an issue of I-have-a-zipper-right-here-and-don't-want-to-buy-one than a purposeful white zipper.

and now a montage from pictures from my blog (yeah, i'm a nerd. i know)

(see my blog here: http://www.chictopia.com/user/blog/FashionAdventures)
I think it come out pretty well. I wore it to a show and got a lot of attention... mostly unwanted attention, but I guess sometimes that's the price to pay when you go somewhere where there are a lot of really drunk men. It held up well though and to be honest, the ability to zip it down a little for air is pretty nice.
my original inspiration was something like this:

(see her blog here: http://www.chictopia.com/user/blog/Lomelino She's pretty fabulous. Her dress is from H&M btw)

2  Inverted duffel Weekender bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by BethyG on: May 04, 2008 11:56:38 AM
So I'm going to New York City to celebrate getting through my first year of Fashion Design School and I wanted a new bag to bring with me.
I started looking around for ideas and I liked the simplicity of the Duffel bag but I wanted to be less tempted to put it down, and so I made it a shoulder bag. It has a round vinyl bottom and a strap with vinyl on one side and the cotton of the bag on the other. It makes a really good bike bag too- it doesn't get near the back wheel and the vinyl protects the bottom from wet splatters. Perfect!

I went for a black and yellow theme, so here's the inside:

Not sure if this is the absolute safest, but i made the top with a drawstring

I also made a version with no pockets for the boyfriend:

Action shot!

can anyone from New York City tell me if they would wear this for style/safety reasons?

3  Orange Soda Lamp in CHALLENGE 27 ENTRIES by BethyG on: May 04, 2008 10:20:22 AM
who likes orange soda? i like orange soda!
When i saw this bottle at World Market, i just knew it needed to be a Lamp.
My mom helped me drill a hole in the back (she's just wonderfully handy like that) and then we put an old cord through (my mom saves those things) and used a lamp kit for the fixtures.

now it keeps things bright in my dorm room. it's the perfect desk lamp!

4  Black Jean Jacket for a Skinny Punk Boy in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by BethyG on: February 19, 2008 09:32:24 PM
well, my friend Andy asked me to make him a jacket over the summer. poor boy had to wait over 7 months for me to actually sit down and make it, but its finally made (hey- i'm a fashion major in college, so i'm a busy girl)
with 2 yards of black denim and 6 hours of work (in one single night) on my part, here it is:

i am really proud of it. he's a really skinny kid so i actually asked a small (girl) friend to help me out with the fit. i used an old button up shirt pattern for ideas about the proper shapes for the pieces, but i made the pattern from scratch because of his size.
tell me what you think

one bonus picture:

he's in a psychobilly band and he plays an upright bass bigger than him. he's amazing though- sometimes he even will stand on it to play, and he drags that thing around the stage like it's lighter than i know it is!

5  Re: A successful attempt at a bikini top! (now with a tut on page 2) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by BethyG on: July 17, 2007 10:42:36 PM
and a matching bottom has been created!

(a perfect pattern for panties makes good bathing suit bottems too, or so it would seem)

6  A successful attempt at a bikini top! (now with a tut on page 2) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by BethyG on: May 16, 2007 08:57:50 AM
so ever since i began working at Joann fabrics, i've been eyeing this silver Lam that we have. i discovered a remnant of it in the remnant bin, which means 50% off plus my discount! let me tell you, this was exactly what i was looking for to make a bikini top, and i was quite excited.
last night i finally got around to making the top. i was nervous because i didn't want to mess up... obviously.
here's the 1 am pictures(right after i finnished it, that is)

(on me)

(on my trusty dress form- thank you again brian!)

please excuse the grainy cell phone camera pictures

i think it's kinda 70's inspired. i guess alot of my stuff kinda comes out like that... i'm not exactly sure why.

9  Cupcake Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by BethyG on: March 02, 2007 03:49:26 PM
i worked on this dress from 10:30- 2:00 last night.
i like how it came out, it's so cute- my sister reminds me a cupcake!

(the ruffles of the skirt look like frosting!)

(doesn't she just look so happy...)

i intentionally made it too big for me. (she's a bit bigger than me, especally if the chest area, so it fits her well enough to model)
it just needs a few adjustments and it'll be done

10  Re: I wanted my own "punk rock moto jacket" (now with tut) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by BethyG on: February 17, 2007 07:08:47 PM
Can you explain how you add the zipper?

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d22/bethgreen/projects/Moto_FrontL.jpg

The zipper part on the right side...did you just fold part of the zipper? How did you get it to look so nice (for lack of a better word..)? Agh, I can't explain it, but hopefully you understand what I'm saying  Embarrassed

i believe in visual learning:
