241  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: My first sweater... just in time for summer! haha on: May 12, 2005 04:17:23 PM
That is awesome!  It looks great!
242  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Some of my finished projects(pic heavy) on: May 12, 2005 04:10:33 PM
These are some of my finished projects...hope you like (forgive pic quality, my digi is really crappy)

This is both my first completed project and (obviously) my first sweater.  The upper chest, sleeve cuffs, and bottom are done in garter stitch and the rest is stockingette.

This is a close up of the upper chest area

This is a plain ol' garter stitch scarf that I made for my boyfriend out of homespun

This is a blanket I made for the birth of my son.  It was made in strips, then sewn together.  Then I picked up stitches around the outside for the border

A closeup of 2 of the pattern squares

This hat I made, first project in the round

So what do ya think?

Here's a little hat I just finished for my friend who's having a baby.  I should have made it bigger but I got impatient  and quit before it was long enough.  Oh well, I guess its only infant size.

Here's my 3 month son modeling it for everyone

I just got home from visiting my family in Austin.  While I was there, my mom told me to raid her yarn stash and take whatever I wanted.  I found this:

Its this beautiful Kid Mohair/Wool/Silk/Acrylic blend.  Main color dark green but one of the ply threads is a rainbow that keeps fading into the next color.  I loved it so much I could not wait to knit something with it, so I choose to do the airy scarf from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts.

Here are some 1 hour baby booties that I finished today.  They're for my friends who are expecting a daughter in October.  I knit them with some Icelandic wool that I found in my mom's yarn stash

my favorite costume has a short story behind it...
last halloween I got scheduled to close at work (I was a line cook at the time), and since that usually means that I wouldn't get out of work until 1 am, I didn't plan on doing anything for Halloween (by the time I got home, showered, and into a costume it would be close to 3, and that's too damn late, even for me).  WELL, its was really slow that night, and the owner of the resturant came in around 10 and said we could close early!!!  YAY!  But I didn't have a costume, and I would feel...out of place...going to the party without one (plus, they were charging $5 if you didn't have one).  So I went to the only place that was open at 10:30 on Halloween...Walmart...to find...
THEY WERE OUT OF HALLOWEEN STUFF YET HAD ROWS AND ROWS OF CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS!!!
My creative mind went to work...and I became a Christmas Tree.
I wore some brown courdoroy pants and a green shirt, wrapped myself in green garland, hung bulbs from the garland, rigged a hat out of a tree topper-star...(and of course, no Christmas Tree is complete without...CHRISTMAS LIGHTS)  I got a string of battery powered Christmas lights and wrapped those around me as well.
I won most original costume, and I've NEVER had so many random people take pictures of me.
245  UNITED STATES / New Mexico / Re: Thrift Stores on: May 10, 2005 08:52:24 PM
I went to Saver's yesterday...its been the first time i've been in awhile, and I was pretty much disgusted (with the prices, that is)... I found a totally awesome pair of jeans, but they were $12!! (maybe that's why they were still there, who wants to pay $12 for a pair of used jeans?!?!!  you can get a good new pair for that much at like factory 2u or Ross)...plus there was this book I wanted, but they were gonna charge $15 for it!!  Yah, it was a hardcover, it was in fair to good condition...but still!!!  Whatever happened to thrift stores being the cheap place to go???
