1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Franken-spinning wheel! on: June 07, 2012 08:06:40 PM
With the better part of a day and some junk from my garage I built this:

Here's a close up of the spindle set up:

It actually works pretty well, though it has to be repaired a lot.

Ingredients:

Bike wheel
Wastebasket
Melted record
Plastic box
Ceramic wheel
Meat thermometer
Particle board
Nails
Duck tape

Anyone could make something like this, would anyone be interested if I wrote up a little guide to making a junk spinning wheel?
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Hankies! on: May 16, 2012 09:21:33 AM
I love handkerchiefs, so I made some for my favorite people.

For one of my best friends

For another of my best friends

And for my mom

I had one for myself as well, but I left if at the headquarters of a campaign I'm working on.
3  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Vegan Ren Faire Shoes? on: May 11, 2012 10:13:13 PM
So I'm making my ren faire costume about five months early, and it's going well, but I need shoes. It seems that many people wear moccasins or gladiator type sandals, however they tend to all be leather. I'm having a hard time finding something vegan that looks right, so I've set myself the challenge of making some kind of sandal. Has anyone made a gladiator type sandal or something similar and could give me advice?
