MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Amazing Iraqi Crafter!

I was watching "The Dream of Sparrows" (from Netflix) a low-budget documentary made by Iraquis. One of hte interview subjects is a teenage girl who could do nothing else during the invasion but sew. She made tons of little dolls, with little book bags, and books that expressed her fears and hopes. Also, all these little cross-stitched pillows. No patterns or templates, just working with scraps. Amazing.
I really reccommend this film... no matter what your politics. It's a pretty amazing picture of life over there.

CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Burda Magazine Pattern Help
|

Hi Y'all.
Heard a lot of good things about Burda magazine having great fashion-forward patterns. Does anyone here use them? How does it work? I just went to their website which is a little vague but (I think) I managed to ordera copy. The current magazine seems to have some amazing Lagerfeld patterns and also a super cool Mod jacket. Does anyone here use Burda or have any insight into it?
Gracias....

CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Sewing Classes - How Much?
|

Hi,
I am a self-taught, but experienced seamstress in Hollywood, CA. I am starting to offer sewing classes (either one on one or in a group.)
What do you think is a fair price? My ideal situation would be to have 2-3 beginners, and teach them for a one day intensive course (say 5 Hours) with the end result being that they could sew a simple, zippered skirt. I am thinking of charging 50 dollars per person, which would make it reasonably affordable for them, and worthwhile for me.
What do you think?
