This is the knot you're looking for, it's known as a Cobra Lanyard Stitch or Chinese Staircase.
The plastic you're looking at is either a nylon or some other plastic it's available at several different retailers, including Michael's. Take a look on Amazon here. This is the stuff I'm pretty sure you're talking about.

^^great!!! Thank you so so much!!! I was just wondering how can i hide the end knot? Like the picture, both ends are connected to the chain without ending knots and it looked seamless. Does anyone know how to do that? Smiley

And what do you think is the plastic-y material used for the knots?
