4th Annual HPC Card Exchange!

Can you believe that it's time for our FOURTH Card Exchange?! I look forward to it every year...it's so nice (and really neat) to get so many cards from all around! Here's all you need to know to participate:
  • This exchange is open to ALL house members.
  • Cards may be hand-crafted OR store bought. This time of year gets very busy and no one is expecting you to work miracles. (I hand-crafted cards my first year and then definitely did store bought for the other ones.)
  • This is open to international participates as well! [Please note that not everyone will send you a card if you are international, nor do we expect you to ship to everyone (unless you want to!). International shipping (even on just a card) can get really expensive. Participate as much or as little as you wish!
  • Please understand you may get Christmas cards or Hanukkah cards or lord knows what else! (We have very creative cards every year!)We have Hogwarts students and alumni of varying religious/spritual backgrounds. This exchange is more about connecting with our fellow students so please keep an open mind about what you may receive. I'm sure it is no one's goal to offend anyone. Smiley
  • This is not an actual swap. Things do not have to be crafted. Nothing will be done if someone "flakes." I'm not keeping track of if people send or not or if cards are late or not. This is just a friendly, non-stressful, and fun way to celebrate the holidays with our fellow HPC-ers in real life.

This is how you participate:
  • PM me (Whistlefish) your address by December 2nd.
  • I will PM everyone the complete list of addresses the next day on December 3rd.
  • As soon as you receive the addresses, send your cards out. Smiley
  • You do not have to send right on the 3rd or anything. There is no set send-out date, just at your earliest convenience. I do suggest sending out earlier than later so cards arrive in time by Christmas. Smiley

I look forward to exchanging cards with everyone again! SO MUCH FUN! I just love getting happy mail. Please PM me with any questions! Smiley

Challenge/Class: Arithmancy/Iron Chef Hogwarts
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Lemon Broccoli Pasta
Brief Description: For the "craft" of cooking, my favorite "material" is definitely PASTA! And this recipe worked perfectly because it also includes spinach which was this month's secret ingredient! I give this recipe 3 out of 5 stars. It's nothing spectacular, it tastes good, not amazing. Please note though: it makes ALOT of pasta and if you have a small family like me you'll be eating it for days. The recipe can be found here.

~*OWL PROPOSAL HEADER*~
OWL Subject & Option: Astronomy (Option #3)
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Mermaid Baby Quilt
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques used, materials using, plan of action, expected timeline, etc.)
Some of you may remember I made a mermaid quilt earlier this semester, then I found better fabric. Well, since it's going to take me approx 3-4 weeks for this due to scheduling, I figured I'd make it into an OWL to get my fellow Gryffindors some points.  Wink To fit the requirements, it will look just like a quilt filled with some blues, teals, and coral but if you look closely you'll realize that there's actually a under-the-sea/mermaid theme to the quilt. Wanna drool over the fabric I found and fell in love with? Here you go!

So life has been unkind to my crafting schedule lately but I'm really trying to get myself back on track. I even cleaned up my crafting area to help me get started! It's been a disaster since Luna's birthday party. But look at it now! Nice and neat. Smiley

Maybe not the neatest it's been but definitely workable. (Plus, I wanted to share my craft area joy with you guys! Our last apartment I had my craft stuff literally in five different areas and I'd have to use the kitchen table to make anything. Now I have my own little section of the basement to craft to my hearts' content.)

Anyways, so yes...speaking of Luna's birthday party....it was a success! Sadly all my pictures are not great because I was so incredibly busy throwing the party I didn't get to take pretty pictures like I wanted. Luckily I did manage to snag some of my MIL's pictures. (Lesson learned: Next time people can mingle for the 5 minutes it would have took for me to take the pictures I wanted.)

Anyways, class dump ahead!

Class: Apparation
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Dino Food Signs
Brief Description: Cutsey little signs for all the dino-themed food at the party. They may look easy peasy, but I spent quite a while designing them all from scratch. Even though it's printed, it's more of a digital project. They were the perfect thing for me to practice apparation - more than two related objects.
Project Picture:

Class: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Dinosaur Birthday Banner
Brief Description: For CoMC, I created something that had FIVE major steps: computer design, fusible interfacing, silhouette cutting, ironing, sewing. Voila! Birthday banner! I don't feel like digging up the banner right now so this picture will have to do. Plus, it's huge. The letters are made out of a really neat dinosaur fabric, cut from the silhouette (never used it to cut fabric before, sure beats tracing!). Turned out pretty cool. May she forever use a dinosaur banner for each and every future birthday. Lol.
Project Picture:

Class: DADA
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Dinosaur Centerpieces
Brief Description: Dinosaurs, like Grindylow, can be very aggressive creatures. Inspired by Grindylow enclosures, I created dinosaur enclosures (centerpieces!) where the dinosaurs could safely be viewed by our party guests. (What it really is: sand and rock filler, carefully placed dinosaurs, balloons on each one. Made 8 in total for each of the tables.)
Project Picture: P.S. Sorry for the crappy picture.

Class: Divination
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Invitations/Gift Bags
Brief Description: I made two separate crafts that look similar and were designed in very similar ways but they are different projects. I designed both the invitations and the gift bag print outs from scratch on the computer and printed them out. I made about 20 invitations, printed on photo paper and matted onto some scrapbook paper, rounded all the corners. And I made 12 gift bags (which apparently was about 8 too many Roll Eyes ) and filled them with all sorts of dinosaur goodies. The good thing about too many gift bags is that the husband can bring the left overs to work. He works for a school so someone will find good use. Smiley
Project Picture:

That's all for now, but here's a bonus pic where you can see the fancy watermelon T-Rex my husband made. Lol! I ran out of crafting time so I gave him that job. He also made "dino tooth" necklaces out of clay for all the kids to wear.

@noodle-bug: That sounds hilarious! I really can't imagine being able to do any dino impressions where you could actually tell which dino other than a T-Rex. Lol!

Class: June Detention
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Space Bag
Brief Description: Make something light and airy? What's more light and airy than outer space?! I have a LOT of this space fabric. I can't remember why, for the life of me, did I buy so much of it. Well, I suppose it's time to chip away at it, lol. I made this cute little zipper bag to keep my favoritist of pens in for my purse. I've started a Bullet Journal a month or so ago and I wanted a little bag to keep my pens in.

@moonflame: I love your sushi charm, it's so adorable! I'm zooming in on the picture to see how is made and I can't figure it out. Is it yarn?

Class: Alchemy
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Papasaurus T-Shirt
Brief description: With Father's Day coming up I was looking on Pinterest and came across the perfect shirt to make my husband! My daughter has been obsessed with dinosaurs lately so I thought it would work well. And as with any crafter, I refuse to buy things I can make myself so I recreated the shirt, perfect for Alchemy so I could have the proper shirt to help cover and protect my husband with love for this Father's Day.
Project Picture:

Class: Transfiguration
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Lunasaurus Shirt!
Brief description: I couldn't make daddy a dinosaur sorry without making Luna one. To accomplish this I transfigured an image on the computer, made a triceratops stencil, and transfigured my fabric paint into a pretty darn good triceratops!
Project Picture:

And, just because.... an action shot! Luna was so thrilled about it she had to put it on right away. It apparently transforms her INTO a dinosaur. I didn't know that my transfiguration skills were that strong. Hence the "roaring" in the picture. Hehe!

Two submissions in a day?! Whaaaa?

Class: Herbology
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Scrap Coasters
Brief description: I was working on the baby quilt tonight and wanted a little break to do a little project. I've really been wanting some coasters for our living room since we actually have real wood furniture at this place (hand me downs, but they're nice!). I haven't been able to find any coasters I like so I went hunting in my supplies and found this pretty blue fabric and whipped some up. No real plan, just kind of made it up as I went and played with some machine stitches and they turned out pretty cute! I'm proud to say that I turned these unused supplies into something pretty. I can't remember the last time I crafted something only using what I already had. It definitely feels good.

Class: Flying
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Hedwig Coloring!
Brief description: I was feeling kinda 'bleh' today and needed a comforting pick me up. I looked through my coloring books and decided on this picture of Hedwig. It was the perfect thing to practice my Flying with. It required both speed (finish the picture before my daughter's movie was over) and precision (because, well, it's coloring).

@Inselaeffchen: I just started my first Bullet Journal last month! Hopefully I'll be able to make some sort of project tracker for HPC.
@Moonflame: That little lemon slice for your bag is adorable! And I love love love that book cover. So neat looking!
@AnnoyingBigSister: Neat shoes! I've always wanted to paint shoes. Are they stiff to wear? Did you use a special kind of paint?
@midkiffsjoy: Your doll sits pretty well, legs bent or not! Can't wait to see what you come up with for it! Also, that work apron is awesome! I can't believe it was a chair cover. Great transformation!
@seeuudee: That was so sweet of you to make some of those cakes! They look amazing.
@Mistress Jennie: Your husband sounds hilarious! I'm gonna start saying that to myself. Hehe.

Annnnd....my first project submission of the semester!

Class/Challenge/House Pride
: Astronomy
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Mermaid Baby Quilt Numero Uno.
Brief Description: Making a quilt requires ironing (heat!) to make things nice and flat and work well together. When I was much younger, I did not think so. I just kinda went, eh...you don't really need it. Silly to think that now. So, to study astronomy I decided to take on this quilt, ironing included.
My best friend is having a baby in September. I knew I really wanted to make her a baby quilt. Her nursery is going to be teal/coral/white/mermaid theme. My choices at the fabric store were limited but I thought these worked well enough together. Sure enough, as soon as I got the top pieced for this I found the PERFECT fabric. I knew I needed to finish this one anyway, so I did. My daughter has gladly adopted it as her own. It worked out though. I haven't made a quilt in 4+ years so it was a good refresher. I forgot a lot. Mermaid quilt numero dos will be here in a week or two! Hehe.
Project Picture: (Pardon the crappy picture. Colors are a tad off. Neither the indoors or the outdoors wanted to cooperative with me today.)
