1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Retro fabric sewing machine cover on: September 05, 2005 06:09:42 PM

Sorry for the blurry pic, but this is one of the fruits of my labor from this past long weekend. I LOVE this fabric! This was also my first attempt at homemade welting, which was a total pain in the butt, however, I do like how it came out. No more dust bunnies in my machine!
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Our wedding invites and other paper stuff (Img heavy) on: August 20, 2005 07:42:20 AM
In true Craftster fashion, here are our invites. We had the wording printed and cut to size at a local print shop. They also perforated the tear-off RSVP postcard and the information sheet. Then I cut the brown backing paper and the strips of the leaf paper and zipped them through the sewing machine to keep it all together.

Then I made our guest book to coordinate. Coptic bound to open flat.

And the inside...

Then I made both sets of parents small photo albums as our gifts to them. Stab bound.

and the inside...

That's it for now! Hope you like!

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Clumsy Boyfriend + White Purse = Disaster on: July 13, 2005 07:20:04 PM
Sigh, I love the man, but when he spilled coffee on the white and flowery purse I had just finished, I was almost that crazy woman you see on cops beating up her man.

Anyone else had to clean a fabric purse before? I would normally throw it in the wash, but I used satin on this one and don't want it to get all water-spotty. The place where the coffee stain is is just cotton, though. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Wedding comb for veil w/ pic on: July 13, 2005 07:07:15 PM
One more wedding craft I can check off my list! It's so darn satisfying to cross them off...

I'd been planning on making my own, but was lacking the motivation to actually do it. Then, one day I got this article magically delivered to my email, and it convinced me the time had come to attempt the comb.

The comb is actually 3 small combs wired together, I couldn't find one the right size that wouldn't rip my hair out. I got the pearl and rhinestone flowers for $3 at Hancock fabrics (on sale! woohoo) and I just whipped up the brown and orange beaded doodads from some stuff I had lying around. Then I wrapped the base of it in grosgrain ribbon because it was all pokey with wires.

I also sewed my veil on after I finished, but I forgot to take pictures of it. I'm actually pretty pleased with it and it was easy. I'd say any other bride could do it themselves, too!
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Yes, another ipod related accessory - shuffle armband on: May 07, 2005 07:44:53 PM
My fiancee's sister is graduating from college next weekend. She wanted a pink ipod, but funds are tight, so she's getting a regular ol' ipod shuffle and a pink armband for it Smiley

and a closer view of it.

It also has an additional little pocket so if she takes it on a run, she can tuck her house key in it.
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Wedding Thank You Gifts on: April 19, 2005 07:36:13 AM
Hi, all. My wedding is next October, which seems far away, but with all the DIY projects I am already doing, I would like to get a jump on making some thank you gifts now Smiley

For our parents, I will handmake books that match our guest book and the photo album I'll make for us. I'm also making earrings and purses for my bridesmaids. But that's all I've got so far. I still need ideas for shower thank you gifts (3 showers, 8 or 9 hostesses all together!) as well as some little things for people who are going to do a reading and help out at the ceremony passing programs and helping at the guest book (another 8 or 9 peopler). Any ideas you all have would be greatly appreciated!!
7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Save the Date card with pic on: January 25, 2005 03:27:19 PM
I designed these for our save the date card. It's the perfect size to fit in a business #10 envelope. I'm also including a little paper leaf with our wedding website address on it for more info. The red "sign" is actually a 2"x2" sticker I had printed at www.psprint.com. We took a the picture of us holding a sign that says "hope to see you there" so when you remove the sticker, you see the message underneath. Thankfully, my future mother in law offered to help me assemble all of them! All told, including postage, they should cost just about 75 cents each.

8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Toggles on: August 12, 2004 05:45:17 AM
Anyone know where I could put my hands on some cool toggle buttons? My internet searching has been in vain so far. Appreciate any tips!
9  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / something to keep track of my drinking! on: August 08, 2004 09:05:03 AM
I've been meaning to whip up a little something to keep track of wines that I have tried so I can remember which ones are good and which ones are yucky. So I made this the other night. It's a basic accordian fold book, 2"x4", covered with some random painted paper I made a long time ago. The white strip is just a cardstock strip that can be slipped on or off to keep the book closed.

This is  how I plan to store it, so it will always be handy.

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / roomy flower bag on: June 30, 2004 08:44:29 PM
I needed a new larger bag to take on my flight tomorrow (yikes! I hate flying!) and this is what I came up with. I think it's pretty cute, if a little christmas-esque! It's less holiday colors in real life, the green is pretty and fresh.

And a detail of the flower

The green is some vintage wool, straight from my late grandma's fabric stash. The red is the felted remnants of a sweater I loved. The light green is a satin I had lying around.
