1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: Arrr! Need ideas to make my annual pirate party epically awesome! on: August 03, 2009 09:38:57 AM
Ooh, sounds like fun.

For invitations, you could make a 'treasure map' to your party location. You could hand draw it and then just run off copies, shouldn't be too expensive. You could also dip the paper in strong brewed tea to give them an extra old look (make sure the ink is waterproof before you try, though).

For the best dressed pirate, what about a custom eye patch with the date of the party on it? Then all the past winners can wear them to the future parties.

Yup, they did move that good will. It's off Johnston Rd. now in the same shopping center as the Food Lion. I haven't been to the guardian angel place, it sounds promising!

Also, has anyone been to the Habitat for Humanity reStore recently? Is it just me, or have their prices gone up significantly in the past year?
3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: sewing paper on: November 28, 2006 08:34:55 AM
I just use a regular sized needle, but make sure it is SHARP, otherwise the paper will keep cutting your thread. Set your stitch length pretty long, go slow, and have at! Don't forget to lock the stitches at both ends.

Waxing it will just make it easier to work with, but it probably won't help with tearing through the holes. You can use a needle that big, just before you start stitching with the thread, run the needle through every hole to make it big enough for the needle to run smoothly through so you aren't trying to pull a big needle PLUS thread through a hole that is too small. That should help with the tearing issue, too. Good luck! Smiley

If the tread is really thin, I wouldn't use it, it will rip right through the holes. You can use embroidery thread if you have that, just wax it really well Smiley
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: e-based recipe swap for omnivores on: April 14, 2006 07:19:35 PM
They are just normal plastic page protectors, available at any office supply place, they worked really well! I put cardboard in the first and last ones to protect the other pages. Smiley

Here's a picture of the book I made and sent to Vancy with all of the recipes. I was actually really pleased with how it came out. Quite sturdy and the pages are all in plastic for any little cooking messes that may occur.

I also drew on some of the recipe pages, just for fun Smiley

Thanks for organizing this swap, PlayItGeorge! Everyone's stuff looks great!

That box IS really cool, JMI!

I received from Vancy over the weekend, and I regret to say the postal service really did a number on the box she had made Sad I can tell she put a lot of work into it and I really appreciate the effort. Thanks, Vancy!
