3  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Starry Night on: October 10, 2013 09:45:42 AM
I had a problem knowing where to post this - embroidery? fibre art? art? - in the end I put it here because I started from the felt.

I made the sample, carved it, and only decided how I was going to use it afterwards.  It's loosely stitched to appliqued vintage wool fabric, and embellished with hand embroidery and beads.

I've done a few art pieces this way and I love the freedom of it.

4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: African Lion on: October 10, 2013 09:37:34 AM
Thank you Smiley It had spent about 30 years in a box in my Aunt's loft, and then another 10 years in a box in my loft - it took two washes and a good month of airing to get the musty smell out before I started cutting and stitching!

I don't know whether this counts as a quilt or not LOL - it is quilted and appliqued though. About 24" square and made of a vintage South African sarong (kanga). I cut the border print off to make the mane.
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: silver or metal on embroidery - will it stain? on: September 26, 2013 10:05:23 AM
Thanks. Nail varnish sounds easy, and would be removable if it went wrong.
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / silver or metal on embroidery - will it stain? on: September 26, 2013 02:52:40 AM
As it says, really. I like to attach real objects to my textile art - silver spoons, antique metal buttons etc, and it occurred to me to worry whether in the long term it is going to damage the fabric and thread.
Anyone know? Tried this themselves?
Thanks

By the way viewers, the 'mature content' photograph is of some pink blossoms rather than pink b*soms.

Hi, I posted this under embroidery as well since it's mixed media!

When I've previously made textile work it's been quite large and I've made them as wall hangings with sleeves or tabs.

But now I've made some smaller pieces (mixed media/machine embroidery/beads etc) and want to surface mount them in box frames. What's the best way to attach them to the mountboard?

Thanks
