1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Need help dating and IDing this antique? Saxony double drive wheel! on: April 22, 2012 11:42:08 PM

(warning: the rest of the blog is NSFW)

I'm a new spinner, and I was looking for a more budget-friendly spinning wheel when a friend of a friend told me about this beauty in a nearby antique mall. (If anyone's interested in it's partner, a red-and-gold painted Norwegian in working condition, it's still in Madison, WI at Maple Bluff Antique Mall as of yesterday). It still works nicely despite the broken flyer and chipped bobbin and whorl. I put a cotton twine drive band on, oiled up a bit and tried it out by plying some crochet thread.
I would love to know if someone has any idea how old this is, as the shopkeeper at the antique store where I bought it knew nothing about it (or spinning wheels in general). It was a steal for a working spinning wheel in the first place, but if it's an antique I'll be overjoyed. Any help is appreciated!
