1  Re: I Love The Office USA Edition Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by mimik on: December 06, 2008 03:04:55 PM

Ruby_soho received from me and asked me to post pictures - Here's what I came up with:
Set of three kitchen towels - "Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica"  There were fun to make - I can't remember the last time I embroidered, so I struggled with it a bit but I thought they came up really cute:

Cute little Kelly doll for inspiration in fabulousness

The back says, "It is important to always look your best...You never know when a cute boy might walk by"

Corduroy Schrute Farms Beets Tote...I made it big and reinforced the seams so she can carry lots of books in it.

I also included a couple of Target items, which I didn't take photos of.  I hope you liked everything, partner! You were very patient Smiley

Do I know how to pick a partner or what? Norahkate, thank you so much for all the awesome goodies - they are already getting a lot of use!  There were a couple of photos I had some trouble downloading (the elf hat and name shirt) so I'm sorry there not on here, but I didn't want to hold up the rest while I'm trying to get my camera straighted out.

Here are the awesome tees:
yoga baby
curry baby

Ali baby

India baby

adorable bib

I love cushions and this one is so beautiful!

I love it all! Thank you!!!

Zuliblu - You totally knocked our socks off this this fantastic package!!!  There is sooo much stuff here, and I absolutely love it all

Awesome long sleeve tees for my baby:

super cute notecards, a coffee cup cozy(can't wait to use this!), and a beautiful card.

adorable patterns and cookbook

big bib/smock - this is so cute and great!

Beyond adorable "I'm the bees knees" outfit - sooooo cute!!!! The pants are handmade and they are corduroy.  I love this beyond words and it fits perfectly!

asian fabric (origami birds!) and eye pillow

Gorgeous crocheted cuffs - I love the buttons! (these are cuffs, right?)

One of my favorite things:  A beautiful quilted and embroidered wallhanging - I will treasure this for years to come!  It's hard to see the scale here, but it's about 2 by 3 feet, I think
There's more! Super soft and comfy law tee for me! LOVE IT!

Sorry so blurry- this is just gorgeous - a huge bib lined with super soft material!

A cushion cover made out of that super soft material - so adorable!  I can't remember what that material is called but I know its pricey!

There was so much in there - it took me forever to go through- there's a also a big  Tshirt for my husband that she stenciled with a Vikings logo - he's already worn it and its being washed right now...I'll update and add it as soon as I can. I don't know why some of the pictures are coming out weird above - I'll try to fix it!
ZULIBLU, YOU ARE THE GREATEST!  THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!

(I'm so silly - I had posted this in the original discussion thread...here it is, now in the right place)
ConfusableBlonde sent me the most joy inducing package!!!!!!
First, we'll get the sad part out of the way:  She made four awesome etched tumblers and two of them broke:
But the great news is that two survived!! They say "Beer Me" "Beer me that water"

I freaking love this frame w/ the totally funny Andy Bernard quotes...It's so Angela and this is going w/ me to work! It's beautifully crafted by the way!

A fantastic calendar - also going w/ me to work...I should scan a few pages and show you the inside, its fantastic

Wait, there's more...a stapler-in-jello kit!

The Target Mouse pad (and memo pad - not shown).  love these!

AND THE PIECE DE RESISTANCE, (drumroll please)

I love this shirt so much!!!! DH and I were cracking up and I can't wait for DS to wear it!!!  ConfusableBlonde, I was wishing I had your phone number so I could call you and tell you how much I love you!

MareMare sent me a super soft super snuggly and very beautiful crocheted blanket...for scale, I placed it on a twin bed. The colors are gorgeous, this picture actually doesn't show how deep and intense the turquoise and purple are.  MareMare, all the work you put into this shows and I will treasure it!

7  Baby-o'-Lantern - My little pumpkin on a pumpkin in Halloween Decor and Parties by mimik on: October 26, 2008 11:33:21 AM
I can't believe how nicely this turned out and how easy it was:

Here's the original portait:

I converted it to greyscale in photoshop and played with the threshold - here's what came up with (keep in mind, I know very little about photoshop - that's how easy it was)

My husband did the carving - I love it!!!!

Edited to add:  Just to expand on my tute a little bit, we printed out the stencil and taped it to the pumpkin...then we used a really sharp pen to poke throw the paper along the stencil lines and make marks on the pumpkin...then we removed the paper and drew along the dotted line in pen just to make the carving lines stand out more.

Ohmigosh, I'm so excited...I received your teaser card today, Kenners!  I love it, along w/ the stamps and I can't wait to get the package.  Pictured is the card (square card w/ Israeli stamp on front, hard to make out b/c I scanned white on white) and below the card are some Iranian stamps. Those must be older, right, because is that one of the Shahs? I'm just so tickled by this.

9  Re: A Week of Baby Onesies Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by mimik on: September 12, 2008 07:41:31 PM
Thank you so much, all!!!!  Norahkate, so glad you liked everything, and its nice to see your other boy - he is handsome!

The tie-dyed hearts:  As you can see, it takes some trial and error (the first one pictured is not as good as the second one, and I'll explain why).  I would suggest googling "tie dye heart" or "heart tie-dye"  There are some good tutorials out there with pictures (the key!).  Basically, you fold the shirt in half and do an accordian fold along the line of half a heart (doesn't make sense?  you need the pictures!)

The reason the second heart is so much better is that I used a needle and thread for the accordian fold, just to make it look perfect.  I do not use a cardboard template for the half-heart, I just eye it.  Also, instead of rubber banding the folds, I wrap it w/ string first, which keeps it straight...the rubber band causes it to bunch in on itself.  Almost any symmetrical design can be done this way (a lot of people do Mickey Mouse, turtles, stars...)

Finally, I would recommend doing the heart as big as you can - I have some tiny onesies where the heart came out looking like a jelly bean b/c there's just not enough room to do a proper fold.
Here's another example of a heart tie dye I made (I posted on the dyeing board, but didn't get many comments, so you guys are totally making up for it! Thank you!!)
