1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / mystery twists? on: August 01, 2005 06:13:24 PM
Oh wise and all-knowing Craftsterettes, please can you help me?

I have a problem with stocking stitch (and yeah, if you've got a problem with stocking stitch you might as well throw the whole thing at the wall and pick up your trusty crochet hook).  I would swear, swear, that I'm doing both knit & purl stitches exactly as a harmony guide, stitch n bitch and Maggie Righetti would tell me to.  And I'll go along fine for a good long time.  But then all of a sudden I'll finish a purl row & the stitches are all presented to me twisted so that I have to knit in the back of the stitch to get them to lie straight.  What could I be doing wrong?  I guess the most obvious answer is that I'm mucking up my purling somehow, but I really can't see how.

Worst of all, this appears to be like a knitter's version of the yips: once the first twisted row shows up, it's quickly followed by others.

I made him up - I wanted to make the boyfriend something and couldn't think of anything he'd be likely to wear. That's when I spotted the green wool...

I can't remember quite what I did, though and didn't write it down at the time.  And if I did it again, I'd do it differently - the decreases on the underside of his head are really quite messy.

Thanks all for being so kind, and for your ideas.  I do declare that henceforth, our little green friend is to be known as Lenny...so many many congrats to kundi who spotted his essential 'lennyness.'  Honorable mentions go also to 'Hubert' and 'Noitch'.

While I'm here - 'scuse my ignorance - homestar?  Who that?

I've been a craftster lurker & fan for some time now, but just had to join up to show you this little fella, made for my boyfriend:

slight problem - he doesn't have a name.  What do you reckon?
