2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Re: My very first hand-bound book! (very detailed post, lots of pics ;D) on: February 27, 2013 11:07:06 PM
This is truly lovely!!

I made a (lazy art school project) sketchbook awhile back that used different papers shuffled together (like you, I get bored easily) - and while it was/is completely awesome, I ended up getting frustrated with the way it would always open to certain pairings of paper - black and vellum, for example - so I ended up reshuffling them so all the types were together. Fortunately (but tackily), I used a binder, what with whole art school last minute crisis situation. (Note to self: that ghetto-fied sketchbook would make a good Craftster post)

I have a feeling that your beautifully classically bound pages will NOT have that same problem!

I LOVE the cover!!!

This boiling thing opens up Entire New Vistas for my plans for altered fashion dolls. Thanks!
4  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Ursula Halloween Costume on: November 28, 2012 11:21:29 PM
I'm sick as a cat that I missed the Halloween contest here! I noticed there was another Ursula, as different from mine as could be (LOVE her tentacles)... but I'm proud of this and want to show it off!

I was lazy and used a skirt that I didn't much like for the main of the tentacles. Thankfully it already had a slight flare and a eight-panel pattern, so it was perfect. The "tentacle" fabric, not well seen in this shot, is lavender knit with potato printed suckers. THAT was super fun! The top is a old tank top I had lying around. The whole thing took four REALLY brutal evenings, but I felt pretty good about the end result. (Note: make longer tentacles next time)

Once I accomplished the dress, the big challenge was the hair: in my youth, we molded our mohawks from Elmer's glue. I was all set to do that, but my (much younger) colleague turned me onto Volumax from Sally Hansen. This stuff is AMAZING. A final coat of white hair color, some pretty fancy (for me) makeup, and I felt pretty A-OK about my offering at this year's bash!
5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: City Orange on: August 04, 2012 08:34:12 PM
Ha, MissingWillow, I never got the chance to find out. This was only the rendering of my submission, and it's painted at 1/24 its actual size. I wasn't selected as a finalist. I'm kind of relieved... I'm not sure how hard it would be to paint a large-scale project, though I might still find out. My Darling Mum suggested I paint it on the building we own. I'm half-considering it!

And elderflower, interesting article - I definitely know some Chicagoans who claim the new lights disturb their sleep... And thanks for mentioning the capturing of memories - exactly what I was aiming for with my salute to the much-maligned "Bastard Amber" & "Ugly City Orange" of those sodium lamps!
6  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / City Orange on: August 03, 2012 09:20:13 PM
I made this for a mural competition that was being held in my ward, and I wanted to share it with others.

In 2011, the City of Chicago began replacing the old sodium vapor lamps of the 1970s with ceramic metal-halide lamps. While I admire Chicagos commitment to energy efficiency and being green, I will miss that old orange glow! That was the inspiration for City Orange:

Thanks for looking!
