1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Teaching kids to sew on: October 20, 2013 02:47:46 PM
I sew quite a bit and my kids love to use my scraps and buy their own fabric when I get supplies.
We have been doing mostly handsewing for a while, but this weekend my 8 yr old boy wanted to try the sewing machine. And if he does it the 5yr old girl wants to too. My question is how old do they have to be before you let them use the sewing machine? Any other advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

3  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Crafting for newborns going through withdrawals on: August 20, 2013 04:25:13 PM
A few local women have started a home for infants to be cared for while they suffer the effects of withdrawal from many types of drugs. Mothers will be going through rehab.
I know they could use blankets and hats.
I'm not sure if there is anything else to make.
Anyone have any ideas?

I saw something similar on pinterest for around $100. I was trying to figure out how to make this from my classroom. Thanks so much. I think I'll use a bucket so I can sit on it!
7  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Childhood leukemia craft on: February 18, 2013 04:59:52 PM
My daughter started preschool with a little boy and 3 days later he became sick and was diagnosed with leukemia. He just turned 5. The school has an art show each year with an auction to raise money for the preschool playground etc. The teachers approached me about making a large item to be auctioned off and the money from it go to this little guys family. I am thinking quilt but don't know what pattern or colors but I would make other items but I need ideas. Thanks

I love this! Do you think kids (5-8 yr old) could do this with help? What about using plastic pot? Would they work?
9  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Beanbags on: January 08, 2013 08:10:15 AM
Our 4-H group of Cloverbuds (5-8 yrs old) will be hand sewing beanbag. I want to use something besides beans to fill them, I am afraid of pests.
Any ideas?

10  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / glucose test strip bottles with hinged lid on: April 20, 2012 07:44:01 AM
We have collected a huge amount of the little bottles that the test strips come in. My pastor wife mentioned using them as a mini sewing kit but how many of those does one person need. Anyone have any other ideas for crafts or kids crafts that they could be used for?  They are about 2 in tall about as big around as quarter and have a hinged air tight snap lid. Thanks
