I just wanted to show you some felt things I've made recently, I felt inspired to do more work with felt after participating in round 2 of the felt badge swap.

5  Re: Sewing Accessories Swap GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by RachelStitches on: May 31, 2012 08:36:39 AM
Here's some photos of the things louw sent me, we did the exact same pattern for the pincushion and thread catcher which I love cos I thought it was a great pattern and wished I had one too when I was making hers.

I also got a sewing machine mat and a little pouch which will be great if i take sewing things away from home with me:

And this adorable rat which is not going to be used as a pin cushion because it's just too cute!

6  Patchwork lap blanket in Quilting: Completed Projects by RachelStitches on: May 14, 2012 06:31:15 AM
I started making this for my Grandma with the intention of it being her christmas present, but my sewing machine was out of action and I had to travel to my Mum's house an hour on the bus to work on it. Add that to a new and demanding job and it didn't get finished in time. I just booked train tickets to go stay with my Grandparents next weekend though so yesterday I finished it off:

It's not exacly 'quilted' since there's no wadding, it's backed with fleece and tied instead, but with cross stitches tied on the back. The cross stitches hide the biots where the squares don't quite match up - I can do small bits of patchwork ok but I'm not so great at big things!

I think maybe I should have added a border but overall I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

Comments and criticism welcome!

7  Mary-Jane slippers in Knitting: Completed Projects by RachelStitches on: May 12, 2012 05:41:32 PM
I made these slippers following this tutorial from the Purl Bee:

The right side slipper was the first one I made and the picture highlights a few mistakes!

They were the first thing I've made following a pattern so they were a huge learning curve - I learned at least 6 new skills making them. I knit them a bit tight but thankfully they stretch, I think that might have partly been because US shoe sizes are smaller than UK shoe sizes. I just need to think of a way to make the soles non-slip now.

8  Little box-bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by RachelStitches on: May 06, 2012 01:42:16 PM
I made this little rectangular box bag to keep all those knitting related things that I can never find when I need them! It's be perfect for make up, travel first aid kit, kids crayons, ladies sanitary things and just about anything else as well though.

It gave me the chance to try out some basic stitching on my lovely new sewing machine and sew in a zip for the first time. I tried out the zipper foot that came with the machine and the walking foot too because at times I had to sew through lots of layers. I used this tutorial here:

Sorry about the poor quality photos!
