1  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Discussion and Questions / Re: Beginner patterns? Easy to understand patterns? on: May 22, 2012 06:20:53 PM
No one who has read this knows how to tie off a frame loom? That seems odd to me but ok. I guess I should also add that I'm going to build an inlke loom soon.

I meant warp not weft... I think.

I've seen someone make a frame loom out of a hula hoop. It was at a weavers guild. They wrapped the weft around the hoop in an over under manner so that it looked like the hoop had spokes if that makes sense.

Hey! I had an idea today! Since it's supposed to be a weave-a-long why not post it in a few different posts? Like How to build the loom in one post then how to string it in the next, weaving the scarf, and finishing. Just a thought.

Yes, yes, yes! I am a beginner weaver with only cardboard and yarn to work with (for now). I would love a tutorial please!

I have no idea where to begin. I have a large cardboard loom made from an old box but now I want more than just the over under pattern. I tried looking up some things but I can't understand them. Like this one: http://www.leclerclooms.com/pattern/2012/Fevrier/Feb.htm I know what the warping order is but what is the tie up and the draft? Can some one recommend an easy pattern I can start with? Also I still don't know how to tie off with out making fringe. And what am I supposed to do about the loose ends? I saw something that said to just cut them short and leave them but wouldn't it come unraveled? Another said to take a needle and put it into the side that it is on.
Wow that's a lot...

I think my heart just stopped... Yup it did! I just went to see Young Frankenstein yesterday and staring in it was none other than Mr. A.J. Holmes! (Heart). Wow... I am such a fan girl haha! This awesome. I must attempt to make one!
