1  Ooh-la-la... A stripey sweetheart necklined dress pour moi! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by gouda day to you on: February 11, 2013 12:25:05 AM
Hello craftsters  Grin

Here is my new favourite dress. It is some sort of synthetic stretchy knit in the BEST black and white stripe I have ever come across.  The mesh is reclaimed from a sassy nighty that was not fulfilling its true potential.  I wanted to experiment with interesting neckline shapes and contours in a knit.  I am quite happy with the result, particularly the sweetheart and the back collar bit.  For some reason it makes me feel quite French... certainly the beret adds to the effect:

The back (sorry - Sepia!):

I did not get a very good full length front image.  I will go with this no-leg one  Smiley:

Thanks for looking! Happy crafting, everyone  Smiley

2  I didn't want to change thread...so... in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by gouda day to you on: April 06, 2012 09:12:09 PM
I have been on a bamboo kick, as of late.  I LOVE bamboo knit/jersey. It is so buttery soft, it washes beautifully... and I am told it is environmentally sustainable.  Can't knock that!

Recently I made myself a purple bamboo dress & I have been loving it.  With the left over purple, I decided to make my mom a tshirt hoody.  I bought some pink bamboo to make her some sort of top and have not been inspired until now.  After making my dress and seeing I had a teensy bit left over, I was ready. Pink AND purple!? But of course!
(And... I must admit, I do have another project queued up, but when inspiration struck for me on this one, I justified moving onto this because I did not feel like re-threading my machine... and hey! The purple was already in there! ha  Wink)

My mom's style is kind of sporty and youthful, so I figured a hoody would be her sort of thing.  A cozy hood was in order!

It has 3/4 sleeves, which should prove practical for spring...
(Crazy face picture!)

And it has a little double heart pocket, about the right size for a debit card and cell phone!
(Hopefully she likes it!)

Anyway, I can't stress enough how wonderful bamboo is.  You should make something bamboo for your mom too!

Happy sewing  Wink

3  Bamboo for you!... oops, I mean me. in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by gouda day to you on: April 03, 2012 03:35:31 PM
This dress is made from a bamboo knit.  It is sooo soft; just feel how soft it is!  Oh wait... you can't  Cheesy

It was pretty quick to make.  Next time I will make a fuller skirt. I am hoping to (re)acquire a dress form, which will make the bust/top half much easier!

I highly recommend bamboo knit! It is so comfy, seems breathable, washes well and... did I mention, it is sooo soft!

So, here it is:

(note to self, next time wear with the Bridget Jones style undies, lol)
Anyway, I still need to hem it, but I wore it today and my beloved was able to snap a few pictures despite the icky weather...

Next time, I will also make the straps wider.  I was aiming for wider... but... yeah.

Crazy face/no-neck.  Oh well. I like the back... Simple, but flattering  Smiley

So... happy sewing!  Anyone else had some fun with bamboo?

ps. Anyone from Albuquerque? Send me a message, if you have a few minutes! I am thinking of moving that way and would love to hear your thoughts.

4  Super Spring Skirt! Sweet... aka: adventures in geometry. in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by gouda day to you on: March 22, 2012 12:38:19 AM
Hey all!

I have been wanting a high-waisted, full skirt with pockets for awhile now.  I am a big fan of rainbow or otherwise colourful things because, well, they go with everything! I have worn it with a pink top underneath, but today I had to go to work (where I wear all black  Roll Eyes) afterwards, so you get to see that it even goes with black! Anyway, the desire for the aforementioned garment led to this little number:

As you can see, I am rather pleased with the pockets! Ha.

It is a 3/4 circle skirt. I had a devil of a time trying to figure out the right measurements for the pattern, and then what trouble it was to figure out how best to lay the pattern onto the fabric and have it cut out well... and... anyway, I am super happy with how it turned out. It is nice and full, here's a twirly picture:

And, it has a big purple zipper, which I suppose could be worn in the front or the back, but so far I have only worn it in the front:

Not the best picture, but at least you can see the zipper!

Thanks for looking.
Happy sewing Wink
