1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Nursery makeover to Buzz Lightyear Room on: September 01, 2005 07:26:20 PM
Now that my two boys are old enough to be out of a crib and such I needed to make over the nursery into a playroom and since my youngest decided to move back into this room as a bedroom he wanted a buzz Lightyear room, so I set to work and bought all my paint over the next few weeks on the oops paint bin aisles, I scoured all teh home Depots in a 20 mile radius to et allt eh colors I needed and as luck woudl have it I found flourescent Orange and Lime in an oops can!  Yippee, grand total to buy all supplies and paint was $28  can't beat that!  My sis and I did this in a weekend, she did the majority of the ceiling painting while I worked on the mural.

Here is the Mural, I had originally tried to use an overhead projector but I barely got Buzz's head on andnot painted ind you when my sis kicked it an dwe never could get it aligned right so I freehanded the rest.

Here is the lime stripe on the wall , that was not easy to get even but I think it is the same size all the way around the room, and the windo sill and trim around the doors is orange while the doors themselves have been painted red, like the planet Buzz is standing on.

I stamped the ceiling then I took all the stuffed 3-d stars I had made for the nursery and hung all but the pink ones back up.  The room had been the cow jumped over the moon themed since I did not know with either boy what I was having.  So I have yellow and blue stars hanging at all levels from the ceiling.

Picture of my boys in front of it so you can have a reference as to how big the mural is.

I also just finished their camping bathroom I will have to post pics of it.  I am onto working on my oldest bedroom if he will decide we are either doing a SUperman room or a formula 1 race car room soon. I wish he woudl decide so I can go look for cheap paint.
2  CRAFTSTER CRAFT CHALLENGES / Craftster Craft Challenge Theme Ideas, Etc. / [ACCEPTED -- ANNUAL COSTUME] Halloween Challenge? on: August 27, 2005 09:07:17 AM
I think we just need a Halloween in general craft right now. Post your best homade halloween decorations for like under $15  or something, which if wanted could be a costume or wreaths or pumpkins etc.  I could use the ideas and I have something brewing in my little head anyway I was going to make although it might be more than $15 but I love a challenge.
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Ornaments 3 year olds can make??? on: August 19, 2005 03:33:11 PM
I teach preschool, I have most of my first semester planned but each year every class is required to make an ornament to hang on our Christmas tree.  I want it to be easy enough the 3 year olds can do by themselves, imade the cinnamon ornaments one year, but kids kept trying to eat them and last year we did pipe cleaner candy canes. I hated them because we do cute crafts all year long and these were just cheesy. I don't want to buy a craft kit from Oriental Trading, but am feelingled to do so because I can't think of something my kids can do and not me, I don't mind a minimal amount of help bt I also dont want to do it all and I want them to last forever.  Those pipe cleaner ones will prolly get tossed soon, they did not hold their shape well.
4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Quick but fancy Hor d'eovres ideas? on: August 01, 2005 06:46:22 PM
I just realized I am having a stamping party at my house Friday night, I thought it was on in October and was told today it is this Friday so I am not at all prepared.  I don't need many finger foods just a couple, but I do not want to do the standard veggie tray. I was thinking baked brie filled with a crabmeat and mushroom filling, maybe some vanilla sugared strawberries, maybe not, sometimes people think they are too pretty to eat.  I don't want standard fare but I do want it edible, no one in my group but maybe two of us would eat humus so nothing like that. If I go to gourmet, people do not eat it, but if I go too mainstream, well lets just put it this way, I am not mainstream and and I am a  snobby foodie and people know it and expect alot out of me.  Any easy but fancy and yummy foods?
5  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / I need spooky food ideas. on: August 01, 2005 03:32:06 PM
I know I knwo I am a littel early fro Halloween, But I am a planner and I am planning my boys 3rd annual Halloween party, I start getting everything together now so the week of and day of I am stress free.  I am almost ready to start my menu  of things I want to make to eat.  Granted this is for a bunch of 3 year olds and Kindergardeteners  sssssso I have yet to go extra gross on them yet, that comes in a  few years.

This is what I have made the past few years so I need somethign new to add to do instead of:

I have done Mummy dogs ( hot dogs wrapped in strips of crosscents to look like Mummies)
Spider, bat, and witches hat cupcakes fileld with green slime (green Nilla pudding)
Bug juice (original gatorade ina  glass bowl filled with plastic bugs frozen in ice)
Witches brew (lime sherbert with ginger ale and dry ice)
I did a big giant worm sandwich last year made with pillsburry croissents and stuffed with salami and ham and cheeses and baked
Dirt cake graveyard

I need ideas for something else that younger kids won't be too grossed out but gross enough for the 5-6 year old boys to really get into.

Also looking for ideas of dood that could resembel something gross, like peeled grapes as eyeballs.

I guess I can put this in the Halloween thread too but I will just start here.
6  CRAFTSTER CRAFT CHALLENGES / Craftster Craft Challenge Theme Ideas, Etc. / Decorated cake challenge on: July 25, 2005 08:23:21 PM
I have made about 4 different cakes in the last 3 weeks and I started thinking  how cool it would be to be given a theme and we have to design a cake to go along with it.  I now there are a few of us crafty ladies  that could do this, but it would have to be a cake and not cardboard.  I find it a challenge when someone says make me a circus cake, or a racing cake to come up with something really off the wall.  anyone else?
7  COOKING / Dessert / Swiss meringue Buttercream icing... Will it work? on: July 05, 2005 08:33:25 PM
I am making my sons birthday cake and cupcakes this weekend  for his birthday it is a circus birthday and I am making this meringue icing to make the heads on the clowns to go on the cupcakes, I found the recipe In marth Syewart Kids Birthdays book.  I tried to make it this weekend and am afraid I must not have beat it enough< ithought I had made it to stiff peaks but maybe not so when I added the butter it  got runny.  I was goignto try it again this weekend but now after reading the MArtha post I am afraid it might not work.  Has anyone ever made this and if so any tricks if not let me tell you what I am doing...
I am making cupcakes, coring out the center and filing with icing and having it come out of the core and make a big head on top of the cupcake to decorate and make look like a clowns head.  If this icing won't work do you have a better recipe for me to use that will stay stiff and still be yummy to eat.
8  CRAFTSTER CRAFT CHALLENGES / Craftster Craft Challenge Theme Ideas, Etc. / Milk Carton Challenge on: June 01, 2005 12:39:37 PM
We could do a trash to treasure challenge or do something with a gallon Milk jug  or cardboard milk cartons.  Tons could be done with those, AND I  might find an idea for something new  to do with my preschool class Wink
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Circus Party for 3 year olds on: May 17, 2005 04:26:08 PM
Ok I have searched and searched and not found this topic listed.  I am looking for ideas on decorating  and fun circus type things to do for my son' circus birthday.  I plan on making my invitations, i want to stamp them I got some circus type animals, but I am trying to figure out the best way to make a big top card.  I would also either like to fecorate the front of my house or the front room to resemble a Big top any ideas on how to do that would be great.

i think I am going to make Clown cupcakes, like the ones in the Martha Stewart kids magazine UNLESS  someone has a picture of a way cool circus cake I could copy.

What I am looking for is fun circus tyoe food like frozen chocolate bananas on a stick to make and cute littel bags to give and fun party favors I can craft.  I have until July 3rd  to plan.

Here's hoping I get plenty of ideas.
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / I need a button maker and I don't mean the machine, I want a person. on: May 16, 2005 01:57:48 PM
My dh is a photogrpaher and we are branching out in things to offer and until I see what the demand for buttons would be I do not want to buy a machine< ia m looking for someone who makes them that can make me a deal.  The thing is ,t i is not the same design it would be a button for each child that requests one, so I could have 12 people or 100.  Every place I look online wants me to buy 2 of each person plus pay a $15 fee up front fee, per picture. Not gonna happen, I want to ffer the buttons for no more than $6  with me playing no more than $4  for them that is with shipping.  Anyone on here that does this that would like a shot at giving me a quote.  dh is a graphic artist too, so me getting the photos to you in a workable format eithr by mail or email will nto be an issue ahe can send it in a  circle in the exact dimensions.

Also, if anyone knows of someone who could offer cheap mousepads or mugs that would be great too, Right now I am going with Kinkos until I see what kind of demand I have for them.
