1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / Re: Seeking a good surface for multimedia art (pencil, marker, paint, pens, etc.) on: July 15, 2016 06:09:07 PM
I discovered a nice smooth service to work on that I believe would be just right for your needs. It's called aguabord (by Ampersand) and it comes in a variety of sizes. I buy the one that is 1/8th thick. It is a solid piece of masonite with I think some kind of white paper type glued onto it...anyway I think that's what it is. But the surface is very smooth and easy to draw on.  Buy a small one and test her out...you are going to love it!!! I have worked in acrylics and water color and color pencil and ink...tho the ink tended to rub off on my finger tips...think I need to find me a better pen. Let me know if you try it.
chek

Just to add, I generally work with the board standing in my lap while it is leaning against the table edge. That way I can get "close" to my work. My eye sight isn't that great anymore.

Must be pretty big if you have to stand back from it. How big is it?

Thank you! After a few rounds with jellybean painting everything else was a cakewalk.  Tongue Cheesy

As a super WD fan, I love your art work!

So many details and it really is scary, just like the black and white movie of the Night of the Living Dead...

just one tiny thing: Where is Glenn??!!!! Grin

...and Maggie?? I had originally planned to add Glenn and Maggie in the windows of the farm house. But I had barely completed Shane and Laurie (she needs to be reworked - sloppy rush job) when I was told that the exhibit was to be in just two days. I rushed thru all that I could so as to be ready for that showing. Now the painting is hanging on the wall in the city's town hall along with the rest of the artists I work with. I didn't know the exhibit was going on so soon, I thought I had another month for that. You see I paint in a league with a bunch of other artists at the senior center where I live which meets regularly. We paint and exhibit our work at various libraries about 4 times a year; it's kind of fun! I thought the next exhibit was in June. Wrong!! That said, I had no time to add Glenn or Maggie never mind even finish up some other details I needed to get to. When I get the painting back I will add Glenn and Maggie and also rework Laurie. Thanks for your kind comments.

Aaah, now I feel better about my decision not to do it.

Wonderful montage - It looks like a charcoal drawing.  I love it.

Thank you! I tried to make it look like a poster type thing (sort've) then backed away from having lettering on it. Now in hindsight I think I should have stuck to my original idea. Well, there's always a next time.

I just HAD to do it! Grin  This is my first attempt at a montage so if it's off kilt bear with me. I decided to do the montage on my favorite TV show "The Walking Dead."  One of the characters needs to be redone, I was rushed to finish the painting and so that's what happens when you are nagged to death.  I will fix when I get the painting back. Painting was worked using 2 colors and was worked on aquabord size 24 by 18.
Hope you like!!

Thank you my fellow crafsters!! I work in many mediums not just beads but no matter what...I always go back to them. I just love them and they are so easy to work with. Why? Because even tho they are small they have large easy-to-needle-thru holes in them. I have a taboret that has ten drawers that hold my beautiful Delica beads; whenever I need inspiration all I have to do is open the bead drawers and scan the stunning array of colors in there and I am ready to create again.   Smiley
