I have a huge collection of awesome assorted beads and so many colors of crochet thread, and I love stringy looking bracelets! Here's my first of probably MANY of these bracelets!

Thanks for pointing out this tutorial!!

3  hungry sewing machine... in Stitch And BOTCH by rockthatfish on: January 04, 2008 11:36:23 AM
over the last several days, i've had the strongest urge to make a purse of some sort. finally i decided i was gonna make a slouchy bag out of this old shirt i never wear.

i start cutting and pinning and everything's all fine and dandy... then after i sewed half the strap on (i was making the sleeves into the strap), i realized i had not only sewed it upside down, but also inside out.  Undecided yeah... so, i had to cut every stitch out. and of course i had decided to sew it twice to make it extra sturdy, so that's twice as many stitches to snip.

after that ordeal, everything's going good again. the bag's almost finished, and i decided i was gonna sew a simple picture onto the bag. just a city skyline at the bottom of the bag, nothing fancy. i start sewing, and it's alright for about an inch, then i notice the fabric's not moving anymore... i let up the foot and try to move the fabric but it's stuck... my machine ate it! so i had to cut it out...

and left a big chunk of fabric stuck in my machine, and a hole in my almost-bag.

gah!

and for no reason at all, here is my cat... not helping.

5  recreating a dress, need some sort of direction... in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by rockthatfish on: March 15, 2006 07:47:21 PM
i've gone through numerous ideas for my prom dress. i finally saw a picture and decided that was how i was doing the bottom of my dress. i just don't really understand how to go about making it. i'm thinking maybe lots and lots of short circle skirts... but i'm really not sure. anyway, here it is...

any thoughts would be fabulous and appreciated.

6  Re: sweater boots! in Shoes: Completed Projects by rockthatfish on: December 30, 2005 07:00:37 PM
instead of pinning mine where i'd guess i'd like it, i just put the boot on and cut off what i didnt want there. it was hard to sew the seam this way (and one of them is a little off center) but i'm not awesome at guessing... cause my legs are sorta big from playing dance dance revolution so much a couple years back.  Grin

anway... a picture for possibly better understanding...

do you think that you could just glue them down to the shoe instead of sewing?  i looooooooove boot Wink but it just seems like sewing it to the shoes is a little more work than ya need? like maybe i could hot glue/super glue it to the edges, and then sew it up the seam, ya know? i dunno, it was just a thought.

i had to use a hot glue gun on the ones i made today. it was my first time using one, and i only burnt myself once... actually twice, but only one really hurt. nothing in the making-these-boots-process was cooperating with me, expecially sewing. so i resorted to the hot glue gun. mine turned out fine, but i don't know that they'll last as well as ones that are sewn. i don't think i had another choice though, what with the thickness of the shoe.

8  Re: your opinion on cow pies, please... in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by rockthatfish on: December 03, 2005 07:10:59 AM
Of course you have washed it haven't you?  Make sure you wash it first a few times before you attempt this to make sure all the shrinkage is out before you alter it and then it shrinks.

it's says "99% cotton preshrunk". would it still shrink any or no? (gah, i feel dumb).

also, the cowprint sounds adorable, but it probably would be hard to match because the cowprint on the shirt is sketchy-ish. i guess that pictures doesn't show it well enough. here...

9  your opinion on cow pies, please... in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by rockthatfish on: December 02, 2005 02:54:15 PM

okay, so, my friend got me this shirt as an early christmas gift. i absolutely love it, despite it taking me forever to pick up on the poop pun. the problem, as you can see, is that it's way huge on me. the sleeves come down to my elbows, and the shirt practically covers my butt.  i want to make it cute and wearable for every-day use (i say this because a lot of the clothes i make is for "occasions only", and i want to be able to wear this out whenever). i was thinking maybe make a dress, but whats a good tshirt-dress look to achieve? will lace or fishnet be too much? i really wanna make this as cute as possible but not too extravagant. thanks in advance for any tips!!

10  tshirt dress!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by rockthatfish on: May 14, 2005 04:41:09 PM
this is the first dress i've ever made. i made it out of 3 tshirts and hand sewed it all. i'm very proud of how it turned out, since i didn't really use a pattern (i used a tutorial for the top part, one from ohmystars). it has a cat and says "donde esta mi gato?" (for you non-spanish-speakers, that's "where is my cat?").

(ignore the stupid look on my face  Cheesy)

so, whattaya think?
