The best place to learn is an adult education class, if your town has one.  You will get experienced help, get to see the tools and practice.  Usually they aren't that expensive.  Or your local high school shop teacher may be willing to give you a shop tour and give advice or a short lesson.  It's not exactly something I would want to start doing without personal help.

Hope you can find something! Grin

23  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Mary Ella from Winter Knitty on: April 30, 2005 03:26:50 PM
I used size 11 seed beads on a hank but couldn't string them the way it suggested (tying the thread together) because the knot was too big.  Luckily I am a beader as well and had plenty of long, skinny beading needles on hand - so I did it that way.  If you keep the beads on the hank and run the needle up them before pulling the hank thread out it goes pretty fast.

As far as needles - mine are metal - I am pretty sure I would have snapped anything made of wood. Grin

0000 Needles!!! I didn't even know they existed...it seems like they would cramp up your hands. Did they??

They did at first - until I figured out another way to control the tension.  I pick-knit and I had to wind the perle cotton up/down through all my fingers to get enough resistance that I didn't have a death grip on the needles. Wink

I especially love your choice for the closure...it looks much more elegant than the snaps that were recommended

Thanks for the compliments - I like the buttons better too!  I just crocheted over my bindoff and added in the loops for the buttons as I went.

Was it hard to do? And did it take a lot of time? How fast did it knit up?

Amazingly - not that hard - pretty repetitive once you get started.  It didn't take that long - but I was really excited to work on it!! Cheesy

This was my first attempt with 0000 needles and I absolutely love it (not the knitting, the final product  Wink).  I was just so happy I had to show somebody.

I got my awesome purse from tinygoatstacker in the mail early this morning!  It is so cool and I am already using it - having dumped the entire contents of my regular purse on the seat of my car to sort out the essentials. Wink

Thank you so much!  I love it!!

I finished mine, but can't send it out til Friday when I get paid.  It's dragging out the time for worrying my partner won't like it. Eek!

Well I'm sure I'll love it - but I know what you are talking about - I was doing the same thing last night as I was sewing...
