I'm new, and a total newbie to all of this, so please be gentle

I'd like to reproduce a design on the back of a motorcycle leather jacket, such as
this one. The design would be one-color heraldic lion with text, but possibly two or three colors depending on how ambitious I get. Since the jacket is black, I'm having hard time finding out what would be the best process.
Here what I've gathered in my research:
- Inkodye only does "raw" leather so I'd imagine it wouldn't work on a black treated leather jacket?
- Cyanotype attracts me since I do photography, but I haven't seen any samples of what it looks like on black leather, if it even works
- Various types of colored dyes from Tarrago or Angelus seem like a relatively easy solution, although again I haven't seen any samples on how they end up on black leather
Does anyone have experience dyeing treated black leather? Any tips or preferences on the above methods? Any other ideas?
