21  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Fairy Mixed Media Sculpture on: December 17, 2012 12:56:23 PM

To create this altered clothespin fairy, I painted a clothespin and wooden spool black and glued them together with dimensional paint. I then glued the spool to a black plastic poker chip (you could probably leave this step out or use a wooden circle).

I used images from Gecko Galz to piece together my fairy collage. I added some chalks to enhance the colors of the images. Once my collage was arranged and tacked down with a glue stick, I laminated the collage for durability. I then used strong double stick tape to adhere my collage to the front and the mini dressform to the back of my structure. The piece is embellished with sequins, seed beads, and a blue rhinestone. I wrapped some variegated eyelash yarn around the wooden spool base. She is so pretty.

You could easily create your own fairy using the above suggestions.
22  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Steampunk Pendant Necklace - Altered Game Piece on: December 16, 2012 04:43:48 PM

This Steampunk Woman pendant necklace is eco-friendly. I altered a card from a Memory Game I picked up at a garage sale over the summer to make this pendant. I covered the chipboard with scrapbook paper and then rubber stamped the cogs on with an Inkadinkado stamp and brown ink. The beautiful vintage steampunk woman is a collage image from Gecko Galz. I added some metallic gold paint to her collar and the hardware on her hat. Once I completed my collage, I covered the pendant with clear contact paper. The pendant is embellished with a golden metal flower with a gold pearl center.
23  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Altered Memory Game Pendant on: November 09, 2012 04:49:08 PM

I created this pendant with a "Bob the Builder" Memory Game piece. I picked up the game at a garage sale over the summer. I knew as soon as I opened the box that they would make excellent brooches, pendants and magnets. I always like to craft green when I can.

I used a variety of mixed media techniques to prepare the chipboard card. I then cut out my image from a collage sheet by http://www.moonlightjourney.com/. This one was a freebie but they have lots of sheets in their online store to choose from. I used mod podge to attach my image and then I covered the front and back with two coats of varnish to increase durability and water resistance.

The pendant is hung on 20" of copper toned chain with a spring ring clasp closure. A golden colored half pearl was added to her headband for some dimension. The woman has a very soulful expression.
24  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Wooden Spool Necklace on: November 08, 2012 05:28:41 PM

I made this spool necklace from three mini-wooden spools (3/4" long) and two smaller spools (1/2" long) that I painted brown and slightly distressed with sand paper. I glued abstract printed fabric onto the spools. I created a tassel with some sock yarn that had the appearance of embroidery floss. I covered my gathering knot with a small piece of the fabric. The spools are strung on 20" of copper-tone chain. Take the spools with you to the craft store to buy some chain that will fit through the holes in the spool. The necklace is a useful way to use up some of those fabric scraps you have laying around. Hmmmm, I'm thinking the smaller spools alone would make a cute bracelet.
25  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Brooch - Skull with Wings & Cherry Blossoms on: October 11, 2012 04:30:56 PM

I call this "skellie" my "skull girl with cherry blossoms". She has orange butterfly wings and is adorned with cherry blossoms. I used a high quality print of my original collage for the brooch. It was heat laminated with heavy 7 ml lamination film.

You can create your own paper collage and laminate it to make a brooch. If you do not have your own laminator, you can take it to an office supply store like Office Max.

I created this "skellie" brooch from one of my original collages. I used a skull image from a 1901 Cezanne Painting. The crown was cut on my Cricut machine. The flower was cut from a plant catalog. I love to collage so I have a big collection of paper images that I play around with until I create a design I like.

I call this "skellie" my "steampunk prince". He has blue butterfly wings, and a flower attached to his orange crown. He is embellished with a blue rhinestone.

You can create your own paper collage and laminate it to make a brooch. If you do not have your own laminator, you can take it to an office supply store like Office Max. I hope you will be inspired to create some wearable art!

27  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Pendant Necklace - Skull with Vintage Mushroom on: October 04, 2012 05:25:20 PM

This pendant was made with a 1.5 inch round wooden piece from an old Bottle Tops game. A collage image that I created was decoupaged onto the game piece and varnished for a smooth and water resistant surface. The image features a skull from a Cezanne painting, butterfly wings and vintage mushrooms.

Decoupaging is so easy to do. If you find an image you like or create one of your own, you can attach it to almost anything. You can buy 1.5" wooden discs at the craft store if you are not lucky enough to find game pieces you can alter.
