51  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Bobby Pins made with Paper Bead on: May 02, 2012 08:12:51 PM
Thanks for the suggestions!

I did use a skinny skewer so the hole inside the bead was small enough for the bobby pin to just slide inside. To give the bobbie a more finished look I filled in both ends with dimensional glue. I used Glossy Accents by Ranger. This dries clear and hard. It holds the bobby pin in place and also keeps the bead from unfurling.

This is a side view of the pendant:

This is the back of the rock pendant:

I made this rock pendant necklace for my Rock Paper Scissors Contest submission. I got so excited about the contest that I raced through and misread the contest rules. I thought the paper had to be glued to the rock, so, my rock is almost totally covered by paper. LOL!!!

This pendant is eco friendly. It has a coiled magazine paper bezel and the back is covered with a piece of paper from a water damaged hardcover book. The lovely blooming hat girl image decoupaged on the front of the pendant is from Artchix Studio.

Not to be forgotten, my trusty scissors were used to cut out my paper image and the words "paper rocks". I chose these words because in my world paper does rock! Give me some paper, scissors and glue and I can happily create for hours. With a little imagination, the possibilities are endless.

I hope you like the rock pendant I have created and experiment with making one yourself.

I made these animal print paper bead bobby pins by using paper strips from old magazines and catalogs. You create a paper bead by rolling a 8" x 2" piece of colorful paper on a skewer or small straw. I varnished the bead to protect the surface. To finish your hair bobbie,  insert the curved part of the bobby pin inside the bead.

Voila! You have made a pretty, one of a kind,  paper bead hair accessory.

these brooches are fantastic - what kind of glue do you use to glue metal to metal?

Do you like to wear your art? Making a paper brooch is inexpensive and fun!

I made this brooch out of a JoAnn's flyer, magazine pages, pages from a damaged novel, and a cereal box. The brooch is simple to make and uses materials most of us crafters have on hand. The pop up brooch is made from four designs that are arranged and sewn down the middle. You can find step by step instructions with photos on my blog. http://wendylynnspaperwhims.blogspot.com/2012/03/how-to-make-3d-paper-brooch-paper.html

Please let me know if you have any questions.

This pin was created with upcycled and re-purposed materials. This floral brooch was made from magazine page images, pages from a damaged hardcover book and a cereal box. The brooch is a 1 5/8" circle. Four different designs were paper punched from magazines and catalogs and then sewn together and folded to create a dimensional half sphere. If you like to wear your art, this is the project for you!

58  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Wood Spool Necklace - decoupaged with upcycled paper from a catalog page on: April 27, 2012 09:57:46 AM

I make spool necklaces from three mini-wooden spools (3/4" long) and two smaller spools that are (1/2" long) that have been painted and slightly distressed. I love to recycle and re-purpose paper when I can. The designs decoupaged onto the spools come from magazines and catalogs. The abstract Art Nouveau design on this necklace came from an upcycled catalog image.

I created this orange flowered brooch from layers of paper chosen from upcycled magazines and catalogs. You can use any paper sources you have on hand and create a colorful brooch that is a piece of wearable art.

I used a 1 5/8" circle punch to cut out four designs that complimented each other. I then stabilized them with punched out circles from a damaged hardcover novel. You then stack the circles in an eye pleasing manner and sew them down the center.
