I also like them both! The muzzle makes the black one look a little haughty, while the lack of one makes the blonde one look congenial... I think mixing the features up gives each one their own personality!
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Art Abandonment swap - was there ever a round 2? on: August 11, 2014 06:58:48 PM
Was there ever a round two? Summers are short in New England, so I haven't been on the computer as much... I love the idea of this and want to join if I'm not too late!

I would be interested in doing this! Am I too late?
4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Steampunk Crazy Quilt (lots of pictures) on: May 31, 2014 05:40:54 AM
Embarrassed I thought I commented on this already... This is the most beautiful quilt I have ever seen in my life! I remember thinking that about a quilt that I saw when I was a little girl that had been made in the same style ca. 1900. Ever since, I have loved the concept of the crazy quilt and you have put together an even more awesome version!

Thank you guys for your kind words- I had a lot of fun making this and want to make more!
6  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Giraffe Baby Quilt on: May 28, 2014 04:50:25 PM
I had made a baby quilt about 20 years ago, but nothing of the like since.
Then I found out a friend of mine was having a baby and I went to Babies R Us to get some stuff off of her shower list and it was not a pleasant experience, so I decided to make something instead... that something was this baby quilt:

The nursery was a jungle theme, so I used leopard print fabric and muslin for the squares, and I found this peachy-pink giraffe print for the back. I thought the squares were missing something, so I cut a giraffe silhouette out and appliqued it to the front. I have never appliqued anything successfully, so I thought I would try a straight-stitch around the edges instead of a zig-zag stitch. It came out a little wonky, so was about to zig-zag over it, but the more I looked at it, I decided that I liked the wonky line and decided to add more:

I think it looks like I sketched around the outline with thread and I really like the look!
I mistakenly used a satin blanket binding around the edges that was too wide, and it didn't quite work out when I ironed it in half  Undecided , but I'm still quite proud of it!

Now that the experience is over, I think I'm in love with making art dolls and plan on making more soon.

I think that must be what all of us are feeling!

I couldn't believe that my package got to LovelyMiss so quickly, but then I saw the cascade of "received" dolls in the gallery and it makes me think the PO must have sensed that our packages were special and needed to get to their homes quickly...

LovelyMiss, I'm glad you like your doll! Her face is creepy, but the original idea I had for it didn't work as I had planned. Computers are going to take over the world one day, so maybe a creepy computer face is appropriate...
I had so much trouble keeping the stuff on her head, I see from your pictures that I got glue on the ctrl key on her head... Sorry. And the tissue is actually carbon paper! My old job used it for timecards. It has writing on it, but is still good. I use it to trace out designs for stamps and woodburning and stuff.

We really have quite a variety here! I'm going to go look at all of the dolls as images only so I can see all of the different ones lined up next to each other!
I do have comments and questions, but I have so much trouble matching the names of who made what, I hardly ever comment on these boards because I'm embarrassed and it takes too much time to go back and match people up to their pictures (and I'm so nervous, I usually forget by the time I start writing).  As a matter of fact, I woke up this morning from a nightmare I was having about not being able to dial a phone number from a piece of paper that was next to the phone. No matter how hard I tried, by the time I looked at the paper and then tried to remember the number to press on the phone, I had already forgotten the number. It sounds dumb, but it causes me a lot of anxiety. I am always thinking about commenting after every picture, but I hardly ever do because of this.
I want you to know that I really do look at and appreciate every single doll that is posted on here, even if I don't comment much.
