Challenge/Battle/Alert: May Fandom: Worth the Wait Team/Ninja: Team Monster Project Geekdom (if any): Insects Bonus Points: Discovery, Nerdy Project Name: Decoupage Birdhouse Project Page Link (if available): Brief Description: My eldest son made this little birdhouse with my Dad at a Home Depot demo class for children about 6 or 7 yrs ago. It was originally just raw wood. I had been hoping that he would paint it himself one day, but I got tired of waiting and it was starting to warp and rust and such, so I figured it was time to take matters into my own hands. I decided to decoupage book pages and some butterfly stickers onto it and paint the edges a teal green. Then I gave it a light brown wash to make it look slight more aged. I have been obsessed with insects and other small invertebrates since my uncle took me to my very first Bug Fair when I was about 10 years old. Now, I have an extensive collection of bug related decor, including some mounted specimens, and I recently acquired a pair of millipedes at the 27th annual Insect Fair. I've been going to the fair since the 3rd annual one. I also have a pair of golden mystery water snails that I love to death. We're talking serious nerdyverse here. Anyway, it's my first decoupage project & I actually had to buy Modge Podge as I did not have any. Project Picture: Here it is back in September, all primed and ready. Just ignore the other items in the shot. Not sure why it took me so long to finish it. I think I was just indecisive about how to do it.

Challenge/Battle/Alert: June Wordy: little nerdlings Team/Ninja: Team Monster Project Geekdom (if any): amigurumi Bonus Points: nerdy Project Name: Amigurumi Elephant Project Page Link (if available): Brief Description: One of my all time favorite chilhood books was "But No Elephants." (Here's a link to an adorably read version on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h2STlj5yyE) I made it pink because I wanted to use stash yarn & this was somehow calling to me. I chose amigurumi as my geekdom, because I am seriously addicted to making, swapping, and gifting them. In the past year I've made anywhere from 2-4 amigurumi per month! Project Picture: I prefer it with the ears flat as it reminds me more of a baby elephant that way.

That purple cloud thingy is cute! (Sorry, I know it's from some cartoon that I don't watch)and that crochet helmet is super duper! Love the horns! Anywho, here's my entry for the June Battle Royal. I'm thinking that Romance is going to win this round (we are mostly ladies here after all,) but my heart truly lies with horror. Challenge/Battle/Alert: June Battle Royal, Horror Team/Ninja: Team Monster Project Geekdom (if any): monsters! Bonus Points: super nerdy bonus Project Name: Pinhead Amigurumi Project Page Link (if available): - Brief Description: About a month ago I did a Hellraiser marathon in which I watched all 9 Hellraiser movies on Netflix. I had seen the first five before and had always loved them, but I wanted to watch the whole series in succession. It took me two weeks because I'm a busy lady, but at the end of those weeks I had a burning desire to make this guy along with a very bizarre crush on Pinhead. Anywho, here he is. I'm quite happy with him. Project Picture:

Challenge/Battle/Alert: May Mulitimedia (I choose Blue!) Team/Ninja: Team Monster! Project Geekdom (if any): monsters Bonus Points: super nerdy bonus, discovery Project Name: Monster Heart Brooch Project Page Link (if available): Brief Description: I'm back with another poly clay creation! I originally thought about making this as a felt badge, but I've been having such fun working with poly clay that I just couldn't stay away. I made this heart from three different shades of blue. I found these little pin/brooch backs at the craft store and was instantly struck with inspiration. It was my first time making a brooch. I was originally planning to push it into the clay, the way I've been doing with the eye pins to make charms, but that technique was misshaping it. I ended up adding a layer of clay over the back of the pin and blending it into the back of the heart. I wanted to cover the whole back side of the heart with the same shade of blue so that it would look neatly finished, but my 3-yr-old was doing the "momma, momma, momma, momma" thing, and had been for about 10 minutes, so I decided that it was good enough & that nobody was really going to see the back anyway. Then I realized I should probably post a pic of the backside since I'm claiming the discovery points. doh! palm smacks the forehead! Anyway, here it is pinned to my jacket. I'm probably going to use it on my purse though. Project Picture: The second one better represents the actual colors. My flash kept washing out the colors in the first one. I finally got around to making something! Challenge/Battle/Alert: May Battle Royal Team/Ninja: Team Monster Project Geekdom (if any): Monsters! Bonus Points: Super Nerdy Bonus Project Name: Pirate Cthulhu charm Project Page Link (if available): Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques/recipe used, any fun tips, etc.) I've recently fallen in love with polymer clay as a crafting medium, so I thought it would be fun to make myself a charm. I love The Call of Cthulhu, and I thought Cthulhu would make a great pirate for this challenge since he is after all a sea monster, or rather a monster buried at sea? Anyway, let's just say that he's closely associated with the sea. I want to hang it on a chain attached to each of the eye pins, but since the charm is really the crafty part, I figured it was okay to post as is. I received these wonderful stitch markers from KitttyHerman, and it is sooo funny because we both made each other skulls and snails! I was hitting myself in the head too, because I made myself extras of all the charms except the skulls. Anyway, here they are... and the snails adorable face... I think snails are the cutest thing ever!! Excuse my weirdness AND, after I photographed then on my porch, I went to put them away and realized that....THEY GLOW IN THE DARK! I love that they are all unique. The tiny roses are amazing and must have taken a delicate touch to make! Thanks KittyHerman I luuuvs them!! (yes, i like using multiple exclamation marks)

I received this great addition to my extinct animals collection: My first dodo! Thanks whysteria! I love dodo's. They are so bizarre. AND, I received THREE cards from kosmicgirl. She did my Famous Monsters ABCs theme and didn't realize that I had already been claimed for the letter "P" until after she made two "P" atcs for me. SO, she then decided to make me ANOTHER atc, this time for the letter "G". Really I never woulda minded the mistake since I can NEVER have too many monster ATCs, but you won't here me complaining. Especially since kosmicgirl is such a talented artist! lol! (kosmicgirl, no worries, I'm not offended. I think it's great!) kosmicgirl, thanks for going the extra mile. I truly feel fortunate!
