11  UNITED STATES / Minnesota / Re: Beat the COLD and make some new friends! Now planning next date! on: October 22, 2009 11:43:52 AM
Wow, I haven't been on craftster in awhile... it's great to see someone has posted in here in the last week, since the posts before that were in June!

Psoup, I live south of the river too, and I don't need any more fabric either.  (I'm not very good at sewing, but I'm trying to get better!)  I've been to Crafty Planet and Treadle Yard Goods and batgirl is right, they're nice.  I've been to a fabric outlet in the northern suburbs.   I've been to a couple meet-ups in the St. Paul area too.  I don't mind driving to check things out; maybe you can ride shotgun.  Smiley

When were you thinking you'd like to meet?

I didn't make it to the State Fair this year, but if I had... I would have tried to find your Spoonbridge with Cherry.
13  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Schoolhouse Rock Swap Loot! on: June 22, 2009 09:16:21 PM
Whoops!  I was going to post the goodies Love2Teach sent for me, but I see she's picked up my slack.  Thank you, both for the fantastic craftiness and for posting, L2T!  I'm planning to use the bag when I go back to work in the fall (I work at an elementary school).  Won't my colleagues be jealous of my awesmome bag!?!

Rhymes with Orange and Love2Teach: I just sent a PM to you both.  My apologies for the lack of communication.  I did receive a package from my partner and will post pics momentarily.
15  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: 44 cent postage envelope swap on: June 08, 2009 11:16:47 AM
I'm not the cheapest person I know, but I think this is a great idea.  It's surprising how many sheets of paper you can get in an evelope and still be under the weight limit, so I think you'd be able to swap a number of things for 44 cents.

My apologies to my partner for not having a teaser to post.  I thought I'd make progress on several things this weekend, but my mom come down to watch my daughter's dance recital on Friday and stayed all weekend.  We made three trips to WalMart and one each to Target and JoAnn's, and the only actual crafting I got done was to make labels for my mom's homemade strawberry-rhubarb jam.   Roll Eyes

Hey, Everybody!  (Interjection!)  I'm guessing some of you will send early and I haven't even started crafting yet... at least not for this swap.  (The planning is going great, but I was up late last night helping one of my teens make a pinata for a "Spanish in the Community" assignment.)

I hope to post a teaser for my partner after this weekend.  Smiley

I just sent my answers to RhymeswOrange.  Let the swap anxiety begin!  haha

Happy May Day, Everybody!

Is anybody going to check out Craftstravaganza?

Sorry, batgirl - I've tried to get my daughter interested in craftster, but it looks as if I'll be the only generation of my family to represent.  Smiley

20  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Favorite Cooking "Secret"? on: April 22, 2009 06:41:59 AM
My tips:

I never buy buttermilk; just use the vinegar (couple of tablespoons) and regular milk substitution to make sour milk.

I always substitute applesauce for oil in any cake recipe, and hate when I run out and actually have to use oil.  Then the cake tastes really oily to me.

One Christmas I was making truffles and didn't have any wax paper for cooling them - I wiped the crumbs off one of those bags used to line cereal boxes and used that instead.   It worked great.  I may never buy wax paper again, unless I want to use it for something crafty.
