Since I had a deadline (Mother's Day), I finally have a finished project to post.    Here's what I think of as the inside:

I had the floral fabric for a while ($2/yd at WalMart!) and I was disproportionately tickled to find a matching blue at JoAnn's.  I thought the blue looked a little plain though, so I made my first applique ever.  It was a lot harder to do than I thought it was going to be.  (I think it would have been easier if I had a walking foot? or if I wasn't trying to make it act like a pocket.)  The pocket on the ouside is too shallow for much more than a pack of gum, but c'est la vie.  I made the straps extra long because my mom and I have long forearms and hate it when we can't easily slip handles over our shoulders!  It's not great, but I'm happy with it and it'll be perfect for my mom.  She always carries waaay too much stuff around in ugly old WalMart bags!
