1  Butterick Retro '52 pattern 4918 in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by hollydaze on: February 26, 2010 09:10:40 AM
My daughter made Butterick Retro '52 pattern 4918 for the winter formal at her school.  Here she is with her brother before the dance.

I helped with cutting and pinning, but she did all of the sewing including the intimidating (to me) zipper.  (I sewed the wrap though... she spent two hours doing her friends hair, so she didn't have time.)

Her friends said she should make the dress mauve like on the pattern envelope, but she's so pale we were afraid she'd really look washed out.

Thumbnails if you're interested in how much fabric went into the skirt.  (yes, she was being silly and wearing a tutu over her jeans)

before gathering

And just 'cause you might want to see her silly extra stays mustache...

5  Re: squares, polka dots and stripes - my first quilt top in Quilting: Completed Projects by hollydaze on: October 24, 2008 06:55:22 AM
Thank you, everybody.  I'm glad other people like the stripes.  Smiley

klum78, here's a detailed pic so you can see that a floater is where the seams don't match up.

6  squares, polka dots and stripes - my first quilt top in Quilting: Completed Projects by hollydaze on: October 23, 2008 06:42:32 AM
My daughter helped me pick out these fabrics - the first one she picked was the border.

I'm not crazy about the green sashing, but I love the stripes, even though I wanted them to be vertical and they came out horizontal.  (I know - I could rotate the whole quilt 90 degrees, but I like the bigger blocks best this way.)

I was pretty happy that it was my first quilt and there's only one really visible "floater."  The yellow in the striped fabric looks like a stalk of wheat, so I think I'll try a stitch to mimic that when I quilt it.

7  comparing two shirts in Stenciling: Completed Projects by hollydaze on: April 11, 2008 08:04:11 AM
I made this stencil from a picture of my daughter for her birthday.  She said, "It's cute.  It's me!" but I'm not all that happy with it.

I don't know if it was just because there was so much more paint on it, but I'm much happier with this stencil I made for my son.

Do any of you experienced stencilers have any advice?

8  Re: "My First" ATC gallery for all the fabulous newbie ATC Artists in Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) by hollydaze on: January 30, 2007 06:57:03 AM
I've been lurking on all the ATC boards for a long time, and finally have some of my own to post.

Here they are:

(The one on the bottom right was scanned sideways)

The colors scanned fairly well, except for the top center one.  They're all pretty simple and I'm not happy with all of them, but I guess that means I have room to grow, right?  Smiley

Do you like the top left one?  My daughter says she doesn't get it.   Undecided

9  Re: Look, I Can Read! Fave Kids Books Gallery in The Swap Gallery by hollydaze on: July 21, 2005 05:46:38 AM
I recieved the following from Emmyliz; a journal , a bracelet, a set of magnets and a treasure box.

The two books I sent were the Secret Garden and Thumbelina, so the journal and the bracelet have keys on them.  I love keys!

The magnets are scenes from Thumbelina and the treasure box was inspired by Thumbelina's lily:

Thanks, Emmyliz!  Everything looks great.  You did an amazing job!

10  Re: Tote Bag Swap (SIGNUP CLOSED PARTNERS SENT ; MAIL BY 6/30/05). in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by hollydaze on: July 10, 2005 10:44:47 AM
Hey, Everyone!

I'm sorry I haven't kept up with progress reports, etc., but my DH started his doctoral program and ALL of his classes are online, so he's been hogging the computer.  Anyway ... according to my info my partner received her tote on Wed, so I'm posting pics of what I sent.

This was my first swap, and I hope it wasn't too big a disappointment to my partner.  I love things that are reversible, and I think one of the straps got twisted before I turned it right side out.  I was going to go back and fix it, but I was worried about making the mail out date and I forgot.  Sorry, Lorna!  Anyway, here it is ...

purses on the outside

flowers on the outside

I also sent a little make-up bag
