thanks everybody.  the sawing was done with a simple jeweler's saw.  then i sanded and ground the edges and buffed the whole thing.

I absolutely am in love this.  Hand-cut and sanded smooth from an antique sterling silver spoon.

upon trying it on I realized that I couldn't bear to sell it.  so i made another one from its sister spoon.

I'm pretty happy with the results.  What do you guys think?  Feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Sarah

hahahaha  i'm sorry...  i guess i should've wrote more...  we used to take field trips to Dana Point Tide Pools and we'd learn all about plankton and go out on a boat called "The Fury" and do little experiments...  it was really cool...  i looked forward to it every year  Smiley

that sounds really cool!

I love those little guys!!  I've always wanted to make diatoms into little creatures with faces... diatoms are pretty much an incredible organism, so they deserve a face- and to be really cute  Smiley
ooh wow I'm such a nerd... Cheesy

hahah, you got that right.  of course, as you can see, i'm more of a dinoflagellate gal myself  Wink
