1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / fabric jelly roll on: June 17, 2008 12:48:26 PM
I don't know about you but I LOVE those "jelly" rolls at the quilt store.  You know those rolls of 2.5 X 44 inch strips rolled together like a jelly roll?  How about a swap of these?  Say 15 different fabrics of 2.5 X 44 or 30 of 2.5 X 22 (cut from fat quarters).   How does this sound.
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Need a little brainstorming on how to do a project on my recular sewing machine. on: February 04, 2008 02:37:36 PM
I REALLY want a serger but since I am unemployed it's out of the question.

I'm looking to sew some items to make a few $$ to help pay some bills.  Of course I want my items to be durable, look nice, and last a long time.  One of the items I'm looking to make is a yoga mat bag.  Without a serger how do I keep the edges from fraying???

3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Ahhh, it feels like Christmas (I'm cleaning out my storage locker) on: January 27, 2008 03:37:57 PM
I put my stuff in storage last summer and moved around frequently for 6+ months (Minnesota, Nebraska, Kentucky, Virginia, and am finally back in Minnesota).  It finally warmed up some today so I went to my storage locker and dug out some of my craft supplies.  I found my fabric stash, my acrylic rulers, and other assorted stuff.  Tomorrow I think I'll be able to dig out my sewing machine.  I need to get out everything I can before we go back to the subzero temps again.
4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / What kind of glue? on: January 23, 2008 07:07:58 PM
I've done a few collages from magazine clippings and I've never been happy with the glue I've used.  I've used Tacky glue, white school glue, and glue sticks.

So when dealing with magazine clippings what type of glue do you use?

I have a bunch of clippings to make what I think is going to be a rocking collage and I want it to last a long time.  Any suggestions for a good base for the collage?
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Ya'll have inspired me... on: April 30, 2005 09:22:17 PM
I've been reading these boards for the past couple of days and thanks to you I am going to decorate and furnish my new studio apartment for A LOT less money than I originally thought.

Some of the projects I have planned (some are already started!!):

:)Refinish and convert 2 cheap bookcases into an entertainment center

:)Convert 2 plastic three-drawer units and 2 12"X36" boards (joined together and set on top of the drawer units placed back to back) into a coffee table.  The top is going to be decopauged and a "skirt" will be placed around the edges attatched by Velcro

:)Convert a 2 shelf unit with wheels into an end table/desk for my laptop, printer, and other computer supplies

:)Cover one wall with fabric stripes and do some ribbon weaving on the same wall to make it look like a large scale plaid pattern.
:)Make my own kitchen table and find 2 chairs at the thriftshop or through freecycle and refinish them to match the table (the size of table I need is hard to find and when I can find it is SOOOOOO expensive, I can make the entire table for $35)

The cost for all the above projects under $200 because I already had the bookshelves, plastic drawer units, and the piece I am going to use as the side table.  If I purchased all new furniture to replace all the above projects I would spend close to $750 or more.  My cheaper versions are going to work better for me than anything I could have bought.

I'm going to get all these projects (except for the wall) done before I move in to the new place August 1st.  I've got a few ideas flowing through my head for the 2 backsplash areas in the kitchen, but those will probably wait until I move in.

Thanks for the inspiration!!!
